Callum Connolly

Haven't seen any of the game yet but made up for the lad, there's been a few of us quietly singing his praises all season. When playing in defense hes always had a remarkable ability to get into the box and score goals both for Everton and England - he's in mark contrast to Galloway who also gets into the box a lot but unlike him Connolly appears at the right spot at the right time to score or earn a penalty. What has become apparent is that this season he's developed physically as well and can play any position across the back four. He hasn't actually played that many games at right back, a few for the u21s when they wanted to play Matty Foulds at left back, and 3 games for Barnsley , but being two footed is a great attribute he has. Someone should do a compilation of his goals this season, it includes a superb right footed strike from about 25 yds when playing left back.

For an 18 year old defender he's got everything in his locker as they say. He's clearly got a future in the game , just a question of at what level and it may take another 18 months to ascertain this. Please handle him properly Everton .

If were picking players on performances then he keeps his place.

Oviedo (who looked like he hurt his ankle) was dreadful so I'd hope to see Connolly get a few more games in either spot before the end of the season.

Need to get minutes now for the young players so we can see how they look for next season.

Made up for the lad.

Looked bright and tidy when he came on, loved the support he got from the other players, noticed Besic was clapping everything he did and took him under his wing, was nice to see.

Agreed, but what if Baines doesn't make it for Wednesday, which I'm guessing is a possibility ?
Then it probably depends on Jagielka. Stones could play right back if Jagielka is fit.

Maybe young Connolly might get a runout in the derby because apart from pride both clubs have other things to play for, but I wouldn't start him at Wembley.

Interestingly, if we'd signed Byram, Connolly wouldn't have got near the team (assuming that Byram was fit of course)

He's the top scorer this season for the u-21s yet slotted in well at RB, which I don't suppose is anything like his true position. A midfielder by trade, yes?

He's one of those rare players that's got to U21 level without really deciding his position. He mostly plays LB, and that's his position for England too, but he played RB earlier this season for the U21s and was playing CB recently too. He's also comfortable in midfield and has played there quite a lot. I think most of his goals are from LB though.

No

I certainly wish he was, but no way Jags is ready for Wednesday, probably for saturday either. with hammies, you're looking at two weeks minimum and more likely a full 3 - and that's if it's very minor
