Cahill.

Cahill is the man . He influences not just the game but the other players themselves just by his work rate and attitude . He is the best all round player we have had in donkeys . No disrespect to Mickey but Cahill is in a league of his own .

i agree It's cahill that drives the team...

with every run/push/tackle/shot and occassional whinge.. is a reminder to the others that we're here to win in whatever way we can.

it's an attitude 100% right about that, and its infectious to the rest of the team.

CAL is right

Arteta equally great but gives us a nice overall tempo but Cahill is the heart.

Beautifully contrasted players that we always need on the park.

to put it succinctly, arteta changes a loss to a draw, cahill turns a draw into a win, different kinds of players completely, and unfortunately i think our team needs arteta more.

cahill can only do so much without a strong midfield supplying him, he's a great player but he's not all that quick so he can't usually break quickly.

without arteta, our midfield often looks lost and aimless, if we don't control midfield its difficult to win, and it usually turns the game into a battle for one point. even if we have arteta however, cahill adds to our ability to finish. look at the newcastle game (a team that we hopefully need no help from arteta to dismantle), despite controlling possession and utterly dominating in every area, noone would put the damn ball in the net which is really all that mattered. i feel confident saying that if cahill were in, it would have been 3 in the bag. lets also not forget that cahill sort of acts like a captain for the offense, just having him there, constantly shouting for the ball would probably have lit a fire under jo's arse, and maybe made him shift to top gear which he never seemed to get into.

Do you think he is as influential as Arteta?

I read that when Cahill plays for us, we have racked up twice the amount of points as when he hasn't? Not sure if this is true but it's surely near to that statement.

I do agree that he isn't an outstanding footballer in terms of technical ability but i would say that he is no yard dog. He is always involved in the good football we play at times.

But is he as crucial to us as Arteta is?

I think he is, he gives us the will to win. There are quite a few players who lack the bottle but with Cahill in the side, the team seems to man up abit and have that drive and urgency to go and win. He's a born winner and with footballers these days, that is hard to find. He gives us belief too and his body language when we are losing is very furious. I really think he gives us something extra. We know how good of a goalscorer he is, he's absolutely superb at finding the right position. Toying with defenders and making a nuisance of himself but i think one of his most important attributes is the will to win and it's something that with all these injuries and the team lacking bottle on Sunday, he'll be able to give us to drive ourselves to Wembley and that 6th position.

Totally agree. If he's not as influential as Mikel, he's certainly the most important player available for the reasons you've stated

No arteta feeds cahill not the other way round

Arteta is the brain of the team - Timmy's its heart??

Seems to me that Mikky solves the problem of how to break an opponent down. Timmy drives us forward and scores. So both are vital to us. But we can survive while one is unavailable.

Mikky and Timmy, the yin and yang of Everton:

"Within Yin is the seed of Yang and vice versa, and as such, they form two complementary, yet also opposing forces. Together Yin and Yang make a whole, neither one is more important than the other."
