And fellaini and baines. Both very good. And jags. Ossie on his day. Come to think of it, why did we win nothing?
A few decent individuals (excluding Fellaini), but you couldn’t say they underachieved. Think of the Leeds team that won nowt with Kewell, Viduka, Ferdinand, Dacourt, Bowyer, or the current Spurs team with Kane, Son, Eriksen, (or the previous Spurs team with Bale, Modric, Van der Vaart).

The FA Cup winning side of Dunc was far better than any Cahill played in. Joe Royle gets a lot of credit for the turnaround (and rightly so) but he took over a massively underachieving side.

In all honesty I find it difficult to name one current Everton player who plays with the heart, soul, passion and skill of Cahill. It is personality like his that we desperately need on the park.

Matt Jackson, Gary Abblett, Barry Horne, Graham Stewart, Paul Rideout.....
Royal performed a miracle with that side!! Aided with the human shield Big Nev performing heroics. They were no way a good side.

What you dont get is that character, desire, belief etc can make you a much better player/team than those with more talent but less application or mental strength on the pitch.

There were a good side that could beat the best on their day because we had leaders through the spine of the team.

I dont doubt that someone like Gomes or Siggy have better first touch and passing that anyone in that team or even our title winning teams. But can you imagine Dave Watson, Horne, Reidy, Ratcliffe, Neville putting up with either of those 2 lightweight passengers,

That's it we lack leaders and character. The mentality is rotten.
