Buying players because of a major tournament

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
It used to go on a whole lot in the past as big tournaments were often the only chance you'd get to see some players in action, but do you think it happens as much these days, what with so much football on TV, global scouting, Football Manager and the like?

Clearly decreased but yet we saw James Rodriguez benefit from a strong world cup - of course, he proved to be a great signing for the capital club...Wonder if Rojo may not have entered onto United's radar either after a superb WC for Argentina

Origi played well enough to warrant interest from Liverpool who were already preparing for Suarez' sale...José María Giménez was outstanding but he's already playing behind Godin at Atletico which didn't deter clubs trying to pry him away after the WC

Surprised none of the Costa Ricans warranted much attention after an impressive WC, Campbell remains a very skilled player yet languishes on loans ala Deulofeu

Keylor navas did go to real.

Three words EL HADJ DIOUF !

Diouf is worse pal, they actually scouted and bought him before the World Cup. Somebody watched him multiple times and recommended him to Houllier, who then watched him and decided he was worth over £10m!

Rodgers isn't the only RS manager to piss money up the wall they've been doing it for over 20 years at least.
