So sorry to here that. Absolute scum. Hope they catch them. And all the best.
Only happened to us once (which is once too often) Man walked into my parents houseand Stole my mums handbag and ran out. Police caught him. My dad politely asked the Police for 5 minutes alone with the scumbag (Police politely declined my dads offer) he did get locked up as he had committed lots of crimes.

They took my bunch of keys, but I had a spare. I think every car I've had has come with more than one key
Automatic thinking on my part, as I don't have a spare for either of my cars!

So you going to take the car or pursue the insurance?

Probably pursue through the insurance. I would imagine the mechanical repairs and the new key fobs will cost more than the excess. Plus the recovery fees as well.

If it's a new clutch and replacement locks it'll be well over the excess mate.

The insurance company will try and insist that a car goes to a garage nominated by them.

The reason for this, is that they either get a kick back from the garage or the garage does repairs at a reduced rate, due to the volume of work it gets from the insurance company / or the garage is owned by them.

You are the person in control of where the car goes to not them, despite any pressure that they try to put on you to take it to one of their garages.

If the locks and ignition need replacing, I'd insist that it goes to a proper Seat garage, as they'll have all the proper electronics for setting up the keys and the ignition in synch. Plus they'll use Seat parts not generic parts.

It's a strange one because the car is owned by vw/audi - I just lease it so I'm the registered keeper. Vw/audi seem to be happy with the insurance sorting it, unless it's a right off which there is no chance.

That's very good news, should just be a straight swap for a new one ;)

Happened to a neighbour of mine just before Christmas this - again they only took the car keys.

It was found abandoned a few days later. Bit confusing as to why they just take the car keys.
Less chance of being caught and they've got a high value item relatively quickly. Commonly they're later used in the support of criminal activity.

That or shipped off with cloned plates abroad to be sold on where they'll gain an even higher profit. The stupider criminal go on to personally use it.

You should lay a big turd in the middle of your living room carpet every time you go out, that way any Burglars will think your house has already been done and go somewhere else.

That presents a few problems :

1. How many people can curl one out at will.

2. What happens if you don't get burgled, you'd end up with turds everywhere.

3. Who clears them up ?.

4. Your house would stink.

5. You'd need a new carpet every month.

Not a very good idea x
