2 years? would be a bit pointless to bring him in for the hex then replace him before the WC

Certainly he's the guy through Russia, right? I guess if he does well he can keep the job, but if I were Sunil (who knows what that guy is thinking), this is only a 3-year appointment.

Oh I agree he's here through Russia for sure. Just not sure that 'caretaker' would be what I'd call his position.

If this doesn't work Gulati's out. Therefore I hope it doesn't work. An "England '78" style debacle and Gulati/Garber getting run out of here wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

What about the German players?

Fabian Johnson, John Brooks, Bobby Wood or Julian Green might not be sleeping real well tonight. Arena is on record as saying that he feels American players should have been born in America to make the national team. (Mindful of this, Arena invoked Earnie Stewart’s name immediately at his introductory press conference.) What this means for the sizable German contingent is unclear – but one thing that is certain is that some of these players are demonstrably better than any of their American counterparts in MLS. Arena, who has a long track record of working with foreign players, is going to have some frank chats behind closed doors.

What do you folks think about the German players?

Don't know about the others but Julian Green was born in Tampa. So crap article.

Arena's earlier comments were poorly worded at best, pretty xenophobic at worst. He was highlighting a real point than Donovan and Wambach made more eloquently though: dual nationals signing up for the US team because they think being a full international would be a good career move, and not necessarily caring about the shirt is a real phenomenon. Clearly doesn't apply to somebody like Jermaine Jones. Buuuut you could make a good case for somebody like Benny Feilhaber to never wear a USMNT shirt again.

As @ijjysmith said, this article is kinda crap. There is no "Donovan Question." He's been nothing more than an MLS squad player since his return.

For the uninitiated, Arena is the Mourihno of MLS.

Arguably the best manager in MLS history. Loves to say thing for the sole purpose of winding people up.

Bobby Wood was born in Hawaii and moved to California before he got signed when he was around 16 I think? Is Hawaii no longer a state? Silly excerpt, so I'll pass on reading the full thing.

Arena has clarified that he meant there should be a sense of pride in playing for the national team. Most of the Germericans seem to have that. Jones, Brooks, etc. always seem to give everything they have. The only one I've really questioned and still would is Chandler. More than once, he passed on traveling claiming injury, only to go 90 mins for his club 3 days later.
