This was interesting

What about the German players?

Fabian Johnson, John Brooks, Bobby Wood or Julian Green might not be sleeping real well tonight. Arena is on record as saying that he feels American players should have been born in America to make the national team. (Mindful of this, Arena invoked Earnie Stewart’s name immediately at his introductory press conference.) What this means for the sizable German ontingent is unclear – but one thing that is certain is that some of these players are demonstrably better than any of their American counterparts in MLS. Arena, who has a long track record of working with foreign players, is going to have some frank chats behind closed doors.

What do you folks think about the German players?

Most of these guys are born on military bases to a military dad and/or mom so I don't mind. They grew up in and around Americans who just happened to be stationed overseas so its not as if they don't deserve to play for the US.

I can see how it sometimes rubs people the wrong way though and every situtation is different. Take someone like Aron Johannsson who yes was born in the US but may be less "american" than a Brit who spent 2 weeks in america on holiday. He's Icelandic, probably identifies himself as Icelandic and most likely will grow old and die in Iceland. However he plays for the USMNT because that was an easier meal ticket (or so he thought) to get into international tourneys.

Arena is already backtracking on these statements because well he wants to keep his job too.

Well, F Johnson and Bobby Wood are legitimately good at thin positions, and Brooks is good too, depending on who you talk to. Not sure Green has done enough at club or country level to garner protection, but he's cap-tied so he'll get another look at some point.

And they're all cap-tied, so it's not like Bruce won't look their way to fill spots, but we'll definitely a lot more of the MLS players (minus Wondo) in the near future.

Love Brooks' explanation of his tattoos: one of Berlin, one of Cheekago, Illinoise

and they'd be stupid to sell him this young. continue to develop him, get more results from his performance and sell him in another 4-5 years for a much bigger pay day.

Dortmund turned down 20M (UK) even before the season started. You know before he actually got meaningful minutes. With the pound in the toliet he's worth at least 40M now.

He'd also be stupid to go anywhere in the prem until he's at least 22-23.
Can't think of many better spots for him that Dortumnd at the moment. Big enough club, getting mins, plays Champions League, good fanbase. Should stay there for at least a few more years IMO.

Arena's 1st move: Bringing back DeMarcus Beasley.

I can't say I disagree, after they literally unearthed him and cleaned him up a little he looks to be in pretty good shape.
