Absolutely no chance Moyes gets that job. There are plenty of good coaches over here who have experience with our MLS-heavy national team. Just keeping his name in circulation.

Yeah I’m not sure that Moyes has the track record of working with youth needed to work in this new generation of young talent. Is much rather have Osorio, Berhalter, Vermes or Vanney.

new generation of young talent? Que? Yea the vets suck, but the next generation has been so awful they can't even supplant them. All there is Pulisic (who while yes is a talent but is still very much a work in progress, even T&T made him look bad).

Sure we'll qualify (I think), b/c its easy to do here in CONCACAF land and many of the national squads in the confed are headed for a downturn (except for Mexico, which has improved, but not markedly) and even if you hired Pep, its not going to get better for a long long time.

Clint Dempsey retires from the game

What a run he's had. I've gone back and forth on him, as well as my admiration for Landon, and I'm split on which one represents the American game (and its future). And maybe it's that both men do. We need the club culture tailored players like Landon as much as we need the playground/uncultured players like Clint, and I'm ok with that (now). Let's just see more of both.

Oh, back on topic, well done Deuce.

Landon was a playground player. In fact many of our all time best over the past 18 years kind of learned it on their own or had a dad knowledable in football (Holden, Reyna, Pulisic). Beasley and Clint pretty much practiced in there backyard all day. All, to my knowledge where kept away from the USMNT at a very young age, which makes you think what the hell they've been doing.

I do think that MLS academies are starting to learn though now that their is money involved in selling players for individual clubs.

Deuce personified the USMNT more than Donovan imo. And I thought that before rat Landon became a Mexico fan

Completely agree. I never really cared for Landon despite all the reasons for me to like him.

Failed at Bayern, and every where else he tried to play in Europe. Decided to sit out most of qualifying then thought he could just turn up and play a WC. He just struck me as someone being content to be a big fish in a small pond. Then all this other non sense and how he reacted to Carlos Bocanegra revealed his true self.

I liked Landon for awhile then the 2014 World Cup thing made me really think about it and although Jurgen should have taken him because he was still one of our best players, he also had a point. For such a talented player Landon never did anything challenging after the failed Germany stint. He was content to sit in LA and dominate MLS and CONCACAF when his Everton loans made it clear he had more in him. Then he did the sabbatical and honestly I can see why Jurgen would say I don't want to take you over players who are committed and constantly working hard. Problem was replacing him with Green didn't do that. He's done some questionable things since then that have not helped his standing in my eyes.

I thought Landon grew up in the rec/club culture? Deuce grew up in the Sunday league/Mexican league culture, much more "playground" (or Rucker Park, to crossover) atmosphere than the current model (although he did go to a big club as a teen). Maybe I'm wrong on all of that, but I remember reading about a big difference of influence in the two.

Yes, I think MLS academies are catching up, but don't know if anything has changed yet. FCD seems to be pretty successful in getting their kids to debut at the MLS level. We'll see if they or anyone else can translate that into producing talent beyond what the current model does, however. FCD have been pretty aggressive with feeder clubs (they've got an East Texas group that is now growing into our market, "talent searching"), but this is a tired model and not the grassroots effort required to change the industry.

I think he gets a lot of crap for not being the talisman of USMNT. I think he just wanted to play, but because he was the best he was asked to do much more than that. Same with Deuce, but Deuce wore the responsibilities differently. Both were hesitant leaders, much contrasted to Bradley, who wants that role and wants to be successful in that role.
