Villan

Player Valuation: £25k
As you may be able to tell from my username, I'm a Villa fan. First off, I'm not here on a wind up or owt like that.

We Villans almost to a man have a lot of time and respect for Everton FC, for your conduct both on and off the pitch. It strikes me that the two clubs are very similar in terms of fanbase, history and potential. We have a thread here (link)
discussing who we would like most to break the top 4 if not ourselves. It's worth noting that Everton come out the clear winners.

I have often wondered if you view us in the same light?

Anyway, my main point is this. I've been so wrapped up in our own summer that I'm a little unsure as to how the team I concider to be our main rivals have progressed. Excited about the season ahead? What do you think of our own relative prospects?

Cheers in advance, hope I'm not intruding too much.

Dave.

Welcome and stick around, we have a good few rival fans who come back here to post.

Our summer was not all that it could have been to be honest. We have made 1 exciting capture and filled up on squad players. I think, honestly we will be looking at finishing around 6-7 in the league this year, short of some monumental purchases in January.

I also respect Villa alot as a club, similar to Everton in many ways.

I'm not sure what to think about the season at the moment, if we can keep all our player fit I think we can finish top 6 and have a decent cup run. Saying that though we still lack depth which could come back to haunt us.

I'd like to see how our signing settle in, once that happens I'll have a better idea of where we are going and what we will achieve this season.

Hi and welcome, im sure if you read a few posts that overall we are excited, we have got some new players and we have kept our core players from last season, so things can only improve.

We havent had the best of starts, but im sure we get back into our stride and try to push the Sky 4 all the way again.

Im sure i speak for every1 when i agree that we also have a lot of time for Villa, but i think we both should be aware of whats behind us, in regards to Spurs, City, Portsmouth, i honestly think its gonna be tough season for both of us, but im sure we can both remain as high as we should be.

Welcome Dave

Good Man for ignoring all the hype re Man City anyway(y) Personally hope for the best for the season ahead. Our new players not had a chance to play yet so reserving judgement on our prospects. Villa have a tidy 1st team squad so should go close. Work with a couple of Villa fans who are top blokes as well. Was willing you on on Sunday to put one over on the dark side

All the best:)

Positive posters from other clubs are welcome as far as I'm concerned.

(We're a broad church here, however, so some of my fellow evertonians might tell you to go forth...)

Yeah, Villa are one of my favourites. And one of my fave grounds - lots of good memories of semi finals in the eighties!

You're a good model for us to follow: A rich, non-interfering chairman who understands the tradition of the club (renovating the Holt pub for example).

And the decision to sponsor a hospice was inspired and should shame all other clubs into doing the same.

Good luck, mate.

I've said a few times on the bbc 606 forums that I've begun to adopt Villa as my secret second team, as much because you're building your club around young English talent as because you have a class manager, fanbase and history.

I'm more excited now about our season than I was earlier. Fellaini could be a class signing, and if we get Saha fit we'll be a lot more dangerous going forward. And with Cahill and Pienaar coming back to fitness our disappointing spell should come to an end.

As for Villa, if I'm being honest I could see you finishing above us this year. You needed fullbacks and I thought you went out and bought two with a lot of potential in Shorey and Young. Add to that keeping a player like Gareth Barry, Agbonlahor (who I see as a James Vaughan-had-he-not-been-injury-ridden) getting better and better, Ashley Young being one of the most exciting players in the country atm and John Carew finding the consistency he's lacked his whole career, you're looking very strong indeed.

And don't worry about posting here, we don't mind as long as you're civil.

As a P.S., I've started to like you more because you seem to be the only other set of fans who hates Benitez as much as we do. =D

Too optimistic Dylan. I'd say anything inside the top ten wouldn't be too bad.

This season we have villa, spurs, man city and pompey who will do better than us, almost for certain.

We've not progressed and I feel we lost some balance within the players. We signed a few players that will take some time to settle. So this season should be to prepare the next one and hopefully we'll become substantially stronger next season with the choices being made.

As for Villa, one of my closests friends likes villa (always chose them for Champ Manager) and I had a Villa jersey when I was kid. so I guess I don't dislike the club at all.

hi dave, i'd broadly agree with your post. i've always had respect for villa, although it wasn't easy being a schoolboy living in worcester at the time of our league cup final meeting(s) back in '77 - i was quite a fan of brian little up to that point! i expect both clubs to be in the posse chasing europe again, but the competition may be even more fierce this season. with our new signings arriving so late, i think we won't have a clear idea of where we stand for a couple of months or so.

As a relatively new fan of the Prem (thanks to the Dish Network) I have to say that Villa is amongst the teams I can roott for when Everton is not on the pitch. I also feel like the teams are very similar, blue collar, hard working teams who can challenge the top 4 on occasion as well as play down to the level of their opponent at times.

Good to see you here.

We call Benitez the FSW (Fat Spanish Waiter), feel free to adopt the phrase (y)

Gabby is probably rated higher by the rest of the country than he is by Villa fans. He's extremely idle and only seems to turn up when he wants to, which is a shame because when he does turn up he's more than a handful.

Our key this season will be having a proper right hand side. Milner isn't worth £12m, we know that. But he will give us a balance we've been sorely lacking for years and it will stop teams doubling up on Young. Thats worth far more than a few extra pennies.

Saha could be a key player for you lot, I'm interested in seeing how Moyes manages to fit him and Yakubu into the same side. I thought AJ was a bag of [Poor language removed] to be honest, so it wouldn't take an awful lot to improve on him.

I'm intrigued by Fellain, looks like he has a touch of class. Only time will tell if he's suited to the hustle and bustle of the PL, but it's worth the gamble.

Cheers Dave I was pleased to see you never let our bitter rivals steal one of your star men the arrogance across the park is disgusting.if we dont make the top 4 I honestly hope you do,Your a club with tradition and respect and even though you have a guy who will spend, you do it correctly none of this tapping up, thats how we lost Rooney its just a pity our board were not as resilient as yours best of luck this season except against us

Think we coined that one (y)
