Seriously though, we piled £45Bn into RBS to save it and the banking sector, surely a few hundred million is worth it to save a strategic asset such as steel......

We should keep it running on some level but mothball most of it. If there was ever issues in future we can then make our own. Else if we are at war with China and we ask them for a load of steel for our new battleships we might be in trouble.

Yes take back it as a strategic asset while it's there we can produce goods steel ect and not be held to ransom by others who can.
China have been dumping cheap steel on the market for years to bring about this very situation , cant compete , more market share for China not rocket science really.

For reference, domestic steel production is around 8 million tonnes, with around 6.5 million tonnes imported. It represents 0.1% of the UK economy and 0.7% of manufacturing (the whole industry rather than this one plant)

And who could of prevented the Chinese from doing so? The UK. Except we ‘took back control’ and vetoed that.
