To be fair the British did have the most feared army and navy in the world and the Muricans had well... nothing, a bit like us versus City at Goodison and City deciding to go home at half time because we had too much possession in the first half.

Donegal is in the Republic.

The British Ilses, that’s the first time I’ve heard that, is that supposed to include Ireland? Lols

Technically, yes, the British Isles cover Great Britain and the ROI. But it's just a name for a geographic region, the same as calling Australia, New Zealand and some Pacific Islands Australasia.

I guess it's just that the isles are called "British" is what may upset some of our Irish friends.

Honestly never heard that before I think it must be a British thing.

Or a term used probably back during the years of oppression.

It’s pretty funny to be fair.

"The term British Isles is controversial in Ireland, where there are objections to its usage due to the association of the word British with Ireland.[16] The Government of Ireland does not recognise or use the term and its embassy in London discourages its use. As a result, Britain and Ireland is used as an alternative description".

Interesting. I imagine the term "British Isles" has been around a heck of a long time though; still, can't blame the Irish Republic for getting a bit wound up by it's use, as the insinuation (at least, to the uninitiated) is that the island of Eire is part of Britain.

Just read the whole article, was first coined by an English man and published by the oxford dictionary.

I think it’s a British thing as opposed to something that’s an actual international term.

If grouped these days you are going to hear the U.k. And Ireland.

Good stuff though, you lean something new, I honestly never heard that before.

Do people still use it in England?

When we move to the docks do you think a proposal of having a british only squad could work? We would have to be settled in the stadium for a few years first of course. Similar to what Athletic Bilboa do in spain. we already have an amazing academy, it would be a unique selling point for the club and be attractive to british players. Tbh all the foreign players bar Vlasic and Niasse have been pants for us this year anyway. If this is too drastic maybe we have a marquee players system in place for the forgeign players? Hopefully this way we avoid dross like Martina and creata unique Club in England. Thoughts??
It'd be great.

Anyone who is laughing about this should read up about Athletic. Proud of what they do and where they are from. Been successful with it and tbh they dont even care about success.

Great idea mate but no chance it'd happen here.
