Brazil did have an outstanding team that year and deservedly won the tournament , the Italy vs West Germany semi final is the best WC game I have ever seen .

It's definitely the most dramatic game...and particularly crazy that a game that good was nearly settled by the toss of a coin.
Re: Brazil/England. Watching the game for the 1st time years later, for me England lacked a 'Gerson' in midfield. A lot of intelligent midfield players, but lacking in those long, jewelled passes that were ideal for quick, effective counter-attacks in that heat. Gerson didn't play vs England either- and it shows.

The ref was one of the greats- a guy called Abraham Klein. He was pencilled in to ref the 1978 world cup final but the Argies didn't want him (he was ref when they lost to Italy in the group stages that year) so they were worried he'd be too fair.
Francis Lee, picked it up quickly, 4 or was it 5 hollywood rolls.
He basically introduced it to England with City.
