Boxing

Pacquiao from the David Diaz fight til the 3rd fight with Juan Manuel Marquez looked unbeatable. He was punch perfect in every fight and made it looked easyp. Plus some of the size differences in the fighters he fought was madness, especially the Margarito fight. At that time frame from 2008-2012 he was destroying everyone in front of him. Diaz, De la Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Margarito, Mosley and pretty sure he fought Josh Clottley around that time frame. He was destroying the lot of them, out boxing them. Not once in them fights did he look beatable.

It was a round that time when Mayweather wanted him to take blood tests and the knock outs stopped. I think once he beat Cotto the way he did, questions started getting asked.

Juan Manuel Marquez exposed him for not been able to deal with counter punchers. I remember the first fight, Pacquiao dropped him three times in the first round, JMM was shocked at the speed. Once he got to grips with him it was a close fight, it ended in a draw but I think Pacquiao nicked it by a round. The second fight was very close again, Pacquiao got the decision but could of went either way. The third fight between them, Marquez imo won that fight by about 5 rounds. He was countering all night, making Pacquiao miss, had Pacquiao in trouble couple of times. Such an underrated boxer was Marquez.

I always fancied Mayweather to beat him too! I always fancied Mayweather to beat him from when the fight got made. It went exactly the way I thought too. I knew Mayweathers boxing ability, IQ and his defence would he to much to take on. It was just a shame, it never happened between 2009-11.

A shame in a way, but Mayweather would have beaten him then too, in pretty much exactly the same way. There'd just be fewer excuses for Pacquiao if it happened back then.

Also yeah, Marquez was incredible. Right up there with Pacquiao - it's just that Floyd was on a level of his own. What's funny is that people hate to admit it as they found him 'boring', but to me technical boxing and hitting without getting hit is an artform that is entertaining in its' own right. Mayweather is legitimately one of the greatest boxers who ever lived.

Totally agree. People tend to forget or never seen Mayweather when he was fighting at Super feather and Lightweight. He was exciting to watch then. The hand speed, combination punches, angles he would punch at plus his defence, a joy to watch. He made it look easy and would stop people. Mayweather had bad hands too, think he broke his hands early on in his career which had an effect on him. That fight against Diego Corrales was an absolute masterclass and true art form of boxing. I think I was around 13/14 when that fight took place and was in awe of him. Mayweather never really reached the casual audience in the UK to the De La Hoya and Hatton fights and his knock out days were behind him by then. Plus the whole money side of his persona didn't sit well with people. Sadly I don't think he will ever get the recognition or respect he deserves.

Didn't stop them from buying his fights though. Another master act by Mayweather that.

Very true. People in America paid to see him get beat and the more he won, flashed his cash and acted arrogant, the bigger he became, more and more people wanted to see him get beat. His PPV Numbers in America are madness. He sold close to 24million PPV buys and grossed over a billion dollars doing so. Pretty sure his first PPV fight was against Gatti in either 2004/2005. to sell that amount of PPV's and the money he grossed in a 12/13 year period is remarkable. Genius.

Adrian Broner tries to play the Mayweather persona, now he's not on the level of Floyd but he gets massive numbers in America, people tune in to see him get beat. I'd act like a plant pot to make the money Mayweather does.

I'll catch the Brooklyn card in the morning.

Jacobs is a great fighter, still think he beat GGG. Think he'll get another big fight down the line, hope he does.

Katie also trying to unify. Haven't seen this Big Baby Miller yet, certainly talks the talk.

Watching Bellew - Haye 2, the gloves are off on sky here.
The head to head interview is bloody odd.

Haye looks ready to burst and Bomber is wumming him good.

I'm working on a show about Boxing.

It's a fascinating sport - I'd deffo recommend seeing a local event it's actually a pretty good night out.

Yeah David Haye like most boxers has made a career by being shy & retiring and not at all full of his own self importance. The bloke who makes people who want a selfie do twenty press-ups or get their girlfriend to give him a kiss or remember that hilarious t-shirt with his holding the klitschko‘s severed heads before he produced a woeful performance. As a scouser I remember him fondly shouting to the assembled Liverpool crowd that they were “f’ing retards” telling everyone that they were morons and to “Get them to bet all of their dole money on Tony Bellew to win the fight, if they are so confident." . I haven’t even touched on pulling out of fights for ‘injuries ‘ or using them as excuses like his big toe or comments like his Harrison fight will be as one sided as a gang rape.

I can certainly see why you’d want Bellew to lose because of what he says.

Hilarious that preceding posts were about how Mayweather was a genius for making people hate him and therefore paying to watch his fights!
