That is the thing though, it isn't a red even under the soft and pathetic rules:



It isn't an attempted headbutt (like Ronaldo's vs Iran that should have been a red as he didn't connect) and the force wasnt excessive or brutal. Probert has remembered only half the definition of a player striking an opponent on the head there (ie: he's forgotten that it has to be with the hand or arm).

Contact above the shoulders when the ball is out of play can be considered VC. Players should not put themselves in that position. It's still never a red, but the ref has the law on his side.
