Booing the players.

So you went the game ? What did you do about the atmosphere ? You were in a position to change it as you were in attendance.

Yeah youre right, and I did sing everytime a song was started in the Gwladys but unfortunately I can't change what 30k+ people do, I'd love to stand up and start songs but when the atmosphere was as strange as it was yesterday it was a weird situation to be in. Maybe I should do that instead of moaning but I think a good run of performances would see a big turnaround in atmosphere.

I think it's worth noting that playing proper manly football, where players aren't afraid to give the ball a good welly, was what brought us our last trophy win. Poncing around like a gang of blerts never won anyone anything.

If 'poncing around like a gang of blerts' is referring to passing and possession football then weren't the Barca team of a few years ago considered the best ever? Personal preference of course but I'd much rather see us play the way we have seen us play at our best than launch the ball up the pitch. Distin does it about 5 times a game and gives it away every time.

We only sing when we're winning. Utterly super.

the reason why the atmosphere was/has been terrible and people were frustrated was because we keep going to the game and watching the likes of crystal palace, hull, swansea, west ham (even though we won) outplay us. our football has become so predictable its unreal, the smallest teams know how to get a result. no i didnt boo last night but i dont blame fans from expressing their view when we decide we want to pass the ball back rather than get it in the box. we dont even take corners anymore, we take them short and then they end up back to howard. its pointless and noone is going to score off it. we have a unit unfront but we dont like getting the ball in the air to him and we have Naismith who outjumps everyone. look what happens when we do the the ball in the box, we scored, jags and coleman have all scored off cross's this year. need to do it more.

We are boring, and very slow. Its not exciting like last season and tactically he's been ineffective.

Apart from Europe this season's been crap. My season ticket feels like.a waste of money

Don't agree with booing but Martinez believing his own hype and I fear his head up his own ass.

I don't want us playing hoof ball I want us playing nice football.

But this isn't school of science this is just slow boring passing

I look at other sides who play a passing game and they all seem to play it better than we do. Movement and fast passing is the key and we do neither.

We also need to start playing Rom through balls and not as a target man, he often makes runs off the defender but our defenders or midfielders too scared to make the pass.

Havent been able to go to goodison this year, as i've moved to Essex. Back home other christmas and going to the Boxing day game agaisnt stoke, praying for good atmosphere. It did seem terrible on TV last night seemed that all you could hear were the players shouting and people getting pissed off in the crowd. would be minging to play on the pitch as a player with those vibes coming from the crowd.

Ali have seen this season when we pass the ball around is coming unstuck, hence the fans are all waiting for this to happen, not very good on the nerves at all, as for the booing we could always go back to the slow hand clap. Or get the cushions out

As for the booing, we've transitioned from a pretty poor to watch direct team into one that plays passing football, if that means going back to the keeper to start the move again then so be it, I'd rather do that than lose the ball.
But at least half of the time, that is what happens (especially since our strengths are not currently winning headers or shielding the ball). Howard gets the ball and whacks it upfield because someone is closing him (and the other defenders) down.

So, by playing the 100% sure pass, we actually turn the move that pass is part of into a 50/50 possession.

But it's so obvious that they're lacking confidence and that's why they end up passing it back.

Booing the players is the opposite of what they need.

I'm not on the boo boys' side by the way. I was just pointing out that an attacking position we were in was quickly squandered and became a tim howard long ball. They are lacking in confidence, only I'd love to know why!

about as minging to sit and watch for an hour and a half and watch poor performance?

I'm not a person who boos. Never have been and never will be! However, that's a personal choice of mine. Others may think differently.

As I've said in another thread I do show my disappointment in others, mainly through the occasional shout or rant.

However, if you've forked out money to watch your team, then equally you have the right to support or criticise your team - as long as it is fair!

With 75% of attendees regulars (season ticket or repeated general sale), I can understand people are becoming disenchanted as of late.

We have come complacent: one dimensional; lethargic; believing we can simply walk past teams and finish games off.

As one person mentioned it last night: imagine knowing you had a Ferrari but it was limited to 60mph. That's what it is like of late.

Yes it was 3-1 last night, which I am 'happy' with, but QPR are atrocious and we at times made them look good. People can see that...

Obviously the result is what matters the most, however I would say even the most optimistic of individuals would have cringed at some points.

Unfortunately, this seems now to be occurring week in, week out. We seem a team void of confidence compared to last season. We've regressed.

This is frustrating the fans a lot, and I think the pathetic set piece near the end just epitomised this. Rightly or wrong, people reacted.

Some booed (although maybe not as much as carefully selected TV microphones may make out). Others like myself simply put head in hands.

I'm not say I agree with the booing, but it is a clear result of what is happening on the pitch. That's the problem, not the fans having a go.

Hopefully it doesn't become a frequent occurrence... I do not want Everton to become a booing club as it has NEVER been one....

Yet, maybe it will show Martinez and the players who disgruntled people have became. If they up their game, then I am sure it will quickly cease.

As a long standing season ticket holder, I've not felt this 'underwhelmed' in a while. Last year was a great high; this is a huge come down.

I heard the booing last night and it did get me thinking about how we play.

Last season, the style of play was fine with everyone because we were winning games. Nothing much has changed since last season, but we do seem to be playing backwards a lot more often. Playing the long ball is NOT the answer and I don't think the sections of booing supporters want the long ball either.

The main change for me is that last season, the players would trust themselves and their team mates to successfully perform one touch, round-the-corner passes and generally take more risks going forward. This season, we seem to be a lot more reserved and the retention of possession is paramount; even in lieu of creating chances.

This is where the frustration of the supporters lies.

I honestly believe that this may be a confidence thing, or alternatively could be due to how poor our defence was at the beginning of the season. RM may be instructing the players to hold onto possession unless we are 100% certain that a successful pass can be made. We conceded a lot on the counter and this would seem to back this argument up.

Moving forward, we need to find the right balance. However, booing the players for going backwards at 3-1 up with two minutes to go is madness.

Good post.

You are spot on about the confidence thing.

We started the season playing like last but the cumulative effect of all those goals we gifted to opponents due to unforced errors had sapped at the belief of Bobby, the players and now it has spread to the fans.

After the Howard inspired Palace debacle Bobby has became noticeably more pragmatic

Totally agree with this. I did remember booing Moyes tactics (I think we all did toward the end of his time at Everton) when we were lacking fit strikers against Blackburn away and he subbed off Anichebe for Neville! (Apologies if I got the names wrong if was a while ago). I think Martinez has the right agenda though - he's doesn't just accept a draw he'll always push for the win and like most people have said its tactics at the end of the day, not the players who generally get "boo-ed".

remember the home game when we were losing to Spurs in a midweek.

And the crowd started chanting 4-4-2?

on the NBC set, one of the guys said 'the fans dont seem happy because they want better'. I dont believe that to be true. The team has taken a massive step back. This isnt like the RS, they lost key players for one reason or another so they are listless. We have the same players supposedly playing the same way they did last year and it looks hugely different. Why? Because its not the same way we played last season. No idea what he's getting at but Martinez needs to sort this out because its frustrating seeing how good a team can be then looking worse than QPR ffs.
