1st ever recorded terrorist I think. Its also strange how we celebrate a night by burning an effigy of man who was executed. Bit morbid.

(St) Catherine Wheels and Roman Candles... That's a lot of angst to deal with.

they also celebrate bonfire night in n.z.

although not sure that they know why as someone asked me if we have it in England. someone did also ask if we have cats here though as well, we said no, months later they said they had seen 1 on the start of corrie, so we said there are wild ones but thats all.

they may celebrate it in canadia as well i think ?

leigh east have also moved to the sports village as well, they were rent free for first 18 months or something, but now the rent that they are being asked for they can nowhere near afford, so are likely to become homeless.
think i did some pics on here of when it was being demolished,[/QUOTE]

You dont get enough pictures of muddy banks these days. Sadly overlooked I feel..........

the ground was a crumbling wreck tbh, but the pitch was always immaculate, even when they used to play through the winter it was always fantastic. when you think that the groundsman was probably caretaker, scoreboard operator, tannoy, and pastie seller it was remarkable really.
there's a leigh equivalent of badgeman as well, he's called 'shandy bass'

everyone in leigh knows him so i suppose he's one of those 'living urban legend'

Shandy's the toast of the post (From Leigh Journal)

Readers may recall Shandy built a personal shrine to the rugby league club's old Kirkhall Lane ground in his mum's front garden off Wigan Road.
Shandy was thrilled to bits when one of his Hilton Park heroes, former Leigh and Wigan prop Lee Hansen, stopped by to see the mini stadium Shandy had created with turf, signs, seats and bricks all salvaged from the now demolished Kirkhall Lane ground.
But he was amazed to learn his stadium's fame had spread further afield.
"I couldn't believe it when an envelope dropped through the letter box simply addressed to 'Shandy Bass, The House with the 'Hilton Park' Garden, Leigh, WN7'. I didn't realise I was that famous!," laughed Shandy.

apparently he's popping up on a few message boards as people are hearing about him.

this fantastic forum rates people with pasties
Leigh Lancashire: local leigh characters

Harry Handbag and Bernard. 2 of Leigh's most terrifying characters.

I think Harry Handbag (or bubblecoat man I think i knew him as) was once seen onanising himself in the window of a photographers show window (on the street) on Railway Road.

I do miss Greenalghes pasties though.....

My former teacher played rugby for Leigh in the mid/ late 70's early 80's,Mr Collins.

Just thought i'd share that staggering fact.
