Blues - In Memoriam

Great thread, Esk.

My dad died at the end of April. He was everything to me.

I'm not a scouser, but my dad was - and he'd been an Everton fan since the 1940s. He brought me a mug back from Liverpool commemorating the first all-Merseyside FA Cup Final when I was six. That was the moment I became an Evertonian.

I've still got the mug, and although it wasn't a final many Evertonians want to remember, it's very special to me.

Mr. mac, an old boy my mam used to make an extra plate of sunday dinner for back in the 70's. i used to take it to him in his flat at the end of our street. He used to tell me about watching everton when we used to get 60 - 70 k every match and you'd see your heroes cycling to Goodison on match days! How going to flanders in the first world war, being captured and declared 'missing, presumed dead'. Coming home to find his two brothers and many of his mates had not made it back! He told me his life " was mostly joyless" until he saw Dixie score for the first time since he had his motorcycle crash! He said it was the first time he had felt real happiness in years! God bless him and all his kind!

My youngest son aged 21 - Entered the Crem to Z Cars; eulogies after family matters were mainly about playing footy & his love of Everton. For example, how he saw a young Rooney score at Leeds, and without a care in the world celebrated but in their East Stand, getting lobbed out by the stewards for his own safety, but sneaking back in at the Everton end to see us seal our first league win there for many a year. Then Z Cars again as the curtain closed!!! Nearly 9 years on his Mum still puts his photo on the table in front of the TV for televised games. RIP Chris. X

Lovely story mate.

It is the stories of individuals that gives depth and meaning to the institution that is Everton Football Club, the fact that Everton is so deeply woven into our lives and makes us the people we are.

For me, it's my Granddad, the most influential person in my life and the greatest Blue I've ever known.

He never missed a home game from 1927 'til his death in 1975. He always bought a programme and I have everyone of his with handwritten notes in pencil including the World Cup games in 1966.

He had me on his shoulders at the homecoming when we won the Cup in '66 - I was 3 so don't remember it, but I remember everyone of his stories, and his memories of his Father who played in our first game at Goodison and became our 5th club captain.

I look forward to similar stories from others...

Gosh, mate. What tragedy, but beauty at the same time. I hope your wife can put your son's photo in front of us winning trophies once more in the coming years.

Always remember those Blues who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Jesus mate. Going to make grown men cry.

There is absolutely no doubt that Everton attracts a unique character-type.
Quality club...quality people.
I sometimes just sit in my chair and think about this if I am honest.
You go to any club and their supporters will say the same won't they? But I then take a look around at supporters from quite a few clubs I know and, to be blunt, they just are not the same.
