Blame the midfield

We set up to predominantly get goals from DCL and wide attackers in Richy and Hamez...which is working. If all of those midfield players were in the side to get forward and score goals (which granted a couple of them probably are when picked), or they were missing sitters week after week then yes blame them. A line up is all about balance though isn't it.
Remember a certain manager signing a bunch of midfielders to spread out the goals, instead of having quality forwards. That worked well didn't it

....doesn’t always tell a story;

Kendall 229 app 21 goals
Harvey 320 app 18 goals
Reid 159 app 8 goals
Bracewell 95 app 7 goals

Total 803 apps 54 goals.

....dreadful goal returns but count their medals.
Indeed, stats tell us very little, I wonder how many goals Kante scored from midfield in his title winning seasons at Leicester and Chelsea? You could also fudge the stats to include Richarlison who would’ve played midfield more than striker overall I’d say.
I’m more concerned that they’re all rubbish footballers and offer little in play let alone goals. Would happily see the back of all of them if properly replaced.

Reid and Bracewell team had goals from wide players to supplement the strikers. Sheedy got 100 odd goals for us, Trevor Stevens got 50-60, for example. They didn’t rely on one or two players to score 90% of the team’s goal output. That team would have been nowhere near as successful if Gray and Sharp were the only two players scoring.

The list the op put up isn’t from players occupying just 2 central places in our midfield, that would be one thing and could live with it - it’s the goal contribution of our entire midfield/wide midfield and wide forwards. You could add Theo Walcott to that list as well. If someone can be arsed looking up their assists as well then think you get a very scary picture.

At least this season we have added James who looks like he’ll chip in from wide to add to Richie and Dom. We’re so reliant on goals from a couple of players that if they have an off day or aren’t playing then we’re struggling to score - even look like scoring.

The other thing is that it makes us (or has made us up to this season) much easier to play against and nullify, a team that only has goal threat from one or two players - concentrate on keeping them quiet and nobody else is going to score.

gomes has scored one ... a cracker against westham? But yeah that’s still crap stats
Wolves, but you are right it was a brilliant shot from the edge of the penalty area that absolutely flew in, now that I think about it, it must have been a fluke because I don’t think he has had a shot from anywhere since, and he should have scored with the header against Liverpool in the game that he was outstanding.

Piss poor return
Iwobi 31 app 1 goal
Bernard 63 app 4 goals
Siggy 107 app 17 goals
Davies 108 app 5 goals
Gomes 25 app
Delph 19 app

356 app 27 goals
with no pace on the wings, we need centre midfielders to contribute in terms of assists /goals scored thats why i found it baffling he played gomes further forward than doucoure on sunday. made no sense

It's no wonder we struggle to get goals when the strikers aren't firing, they don't score and hardly assist as that's our full back and wide men, we never used to attack through the middle
