Some people just want to crusade all the time- want it to be about themselves
In my short time on this forum I've noticed that many posters simply do not have any sense of appropriateness or tact- recently in the Neville retirement thread and this one.
A poster will say something unnecessarily crass or misplaced, and when asked to rather talk about that elsewhere, respond with "I see this post is about X, and all I did was say my opinion about X, stop censoring me"...


Such an excellent speech- to me it seemed warm, sincere, and so so heartfelt. Made general news here in South Africa (very large LFC following so is of interest). Despite the many many problems, the combo of Kenwright and Moyes have done a fantastic job in establishing Everton's image in the public eye as a classy, warm, positive club. Credit to the club and a fitting voice for the fans yesterday.
 

I dont think LITTLE JOE or Kever10 are saying anything too outrageous, tbh. They're just making the point that Bill knows how to work a crowd. I dont think everything he said was sincere yesterday myself. He's an actor and we know through vast experience that he's well capable of hamming it up for a purpose. It just so happens that yesterdays purpose was to give 96 grieving families a bit of solidarity, which is why you have to accept it as a good thing at the end of the day.

in fairness most including myself and the likes of davek who are no fans of the fella, have said he did himself and the club proud, im sure there will be plenty of things to have a go at him for over the coming months, but on this occassion he didnt do anything wrong so its not the time and place to have ago at him, the reaction to him by the crowd and family members says he got it right and at the end of the day thats what really matters .

No, I do understand completely and I do believe it. They've just posted in the wrong thread imo.
 
how anyone can knock him for that is beyond me. Very moving speech. I dont care what anyone thinks about him and his business sence etc.. but since he took over and obviously with the work of Moyes I am proud of my football club again.
 

I thought it was a good speech in what were very difficult circumstances, if he had got it wrong he would have been slaughtered by their fans and ours. Forget how you feel about him as the owner of our football club it was a local lad giving a speech on the tragic events that happened in 1989- I thought he showed a great deal of decorum.

People using this thread to have another go at him- get a grip will you. Like its been said go to the Board thread to rip him if you must.

This, really.

I'll freely admit I detest that lot over the park, with a passion. The thought of wearing a "halfy-halfy" shirt, scarf or whatever makes my skin crawl and joining arms, singing unified songs etc goes against so much of what I believe in.

But THAT occasion, back in the aftermatch when we had the home derby with the massive scarf, the unified stand etc - THAT was what was important. Forget any self-held beliefs, forget any football-based tribal stuff. Some things are bigger than that.

Bill might well be a bell at so many things, but on this occasion it was important for him to make the right noises. For the families. For that lot over the park - the ENTIRE LFC family. And for us, don't forget that. Not so we can score brownie points or receive pats on the back. But because it's important for us to support them - yes, them - in a dignified manner. Not OTT, but neither disprespectful. But in a way in which we'd hope others would stand with us should the shoe be on the other foot.

For my money, Bill got it spot-on. I'm grateful he did that on my behalf. I won't forgive him for all his other shortcomings, just like I won't become a fan of that lot over the park. But for once, it's time to time to suspend those feelings and just do the right thing in a quiet, measured and heartfelt manner to try to make their grief that bit easier. The rest will take care of itself again soon enough.

This is me being amazed how a few trite words from an insincere man can blind so many people.

The man is a self serving illusionist, and this is his best trick yet.

I wouldn't trust him if he told me it was Monday.

Don't like the fellah and want him out of Everton but must say I was deeply moved by his speech and thought he did a great thing for the cause. Thumbs up to you Bill on this one.
 
RAWK's fairly considered reaction to Kenwright's speech.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to comment negatively on the speech in this thread, if that's what they want to do. It's specifically a thread about that and nothing else. I find Kenwright unbearably cloying every time he speaks, and, even though this particular time was freighted with significance, I don't think it was quite as eloquent or profound as some are making out.

However, as others have said, it's a continuation of the support we've shown over the years, and it was necessary. Liverpool fans have appreciated it, and many in the crowd were visibly moved. The important thing is that, while he may have been overly sentimental to some, it shouldn't be thought that he was being insincere. The empathy and support from blues is there, it's genuine. Even if Bill delivers it with a community theatre gravity people shouldn't undermine what it really means.

The above is one of the most disgusting things i have ever read. Hang your head in shame.
