Be really funny if he comes and doesn't get a game, he got away from Goodison to win things. Stones and the rest will follow suit, never blamed him I blamed Kenwright and the board and nothing has changed in the 11 years since.

Lot of forgiving Evertonians on here. Interesting.

Gave his best years to another club, sued our manager and sullied the name of the club with lies, and taunted the fans when he couldn't handle stick for breaking people's hearts.

Took him YEARS to thanks the Academy staff at Everton who nurtured him too.

Hard to forgive and forget to be honest. Perfectly reasonable reaction to have.

Interesting but just a footnote really. Duncan's game.

I think a 4-3-3 with Rooney and Lukaku coming in and Duncan Ferguson at the tip would be quite cool to watch, even if it lasts thirty minutes!

From an outsider point of view ... Watching Rooney against yous its as if hes half arsed get over something he did many moons ago deep down he's one of yous always has been always will be

I just thank God the Horse Punchers didn't sign him

Lol at grown arse men still holding a grudge against Rooney for something he did when he was 18 or whatever. embarrassing.

"But he kissed der Manc badge"

Oh noes, the horror. he only did that as a response to the abuse he was getting from the crowd, he was only 19/20 years old.

It's pretty clear he's still an Everton fan, people who still get eggy over the mention of him need to have a word with themselves. It's been well over 10 years now you bunch of gargantuan drama queens.

Or 23...but lets not let the facts get in the way of the 'oh he was only a little boy who didnt know what he was doing.'

This is absolutely spot on. For all those going on having a go at anyone for holding a grudge, why do you bother with football? Can we also not relive the past in other threads on here? Can nobody mention any particularly painful defeats or moments watching us over the years? There are people who still get teary eyed remembering the day Alan Ball or Duncan Ferguson left. Jesus Christ, football is emotional, or why do we bother? If you're going to get so much joy from the good times, you have to be prepared to deal with some anger and some sadness as well. And as much as Rooney can try and worm his way back in, putting pics of his kids in Everton kits, suddenly remembering that its not a smart thing to ignore the people who helped put you where you are, or be so out of touch with a group of fans who idolised you that you actually feel affronted that they got upset you left. He has made his bed. Putting in a transfer request on deadline day after going AWOL all summer. Running round Goodison kissing his badge. Running over and goading the away end at Old Trafford after Ronaldo scored a last minute winner at the far end of the ground. Dragging the club through the mud because he got into a strop with Moyes.

I think when a player fans love so much takes a dump all over them, they react one of two ways. They hate said player more than ever because they hurt them so much, or they refuse to believe that its all their fault and look for someone else to blame. People can blame the board and ambition all they want. The board didnt make him hand in that transfer request or behave the way he did on the pitch towards us. That was all him. I dont begrudge him for leaving, I never did. It was his behaviour ever since. And a bit of sucking up the last few years doesnt change that. Im guessing its just taken him this long to realise that his behaviour had an impact on his family, and his ability to be able to walk down the street in his home city.

Whoever is wearing a blue shirt and playing for Everton in that game, I will get behind them. Am an Everton fan and will always back whoever wears the badge on their shirt regardless if it's Rooney or Li Tie.

Is this a joke?
Duncan Fergusan, what can one really say about the big man. In my younger days, Big Dunc was along with many fellow blues my favourite Everton player. He epitomised Everton, he was Everton (and still is Everton). A giant of a man, he was the one player supporters could genuinely relate with, a rough diamond, polished and refined by the Goodison faithful and boy did that diamond shine. I'm man enough to say that I shed a tear or two when he ventured up to Tyneside for a holiday, but those magpies didn't appreciate the exotic bird that was so greatly appreciated and loved at Goodison. A lot of memories spring to mind when we think of big Dunc, the header against Utd, the passion with Jimmy Bullard but one unfortunately strikes a nerve that will live long in the memory, which brings me to my main point. Everton against all the odds qualified for the 2005 UEFA Champions league finishing 4th. That meant a qualifying tie against Villarreal a team laden with quite a few recognisable names. The first leg Everton lost 2-1 and so we headed to Estadio El Madrigal with optimism and hope. What played out needs no description and fans will remember the utter deflation and injustice that ensued. To this day I can still identify with the anger and pain of what could have been. So I suppose I'm writing this piece because I cannot fandom why Everton have decided to play Villarreal for the big mans testimonial. Don't get me wrong, he deserves a testimonial, he deserves an Oscar, he deserves a Nobel peace prize but why Everton, why them. Why bring back those feelings of what might have been!! We all remember that infamous night how it was a catalyst for a disastrous season, a humiliating defeat in the then called UEFA cup followed by a poor season which eventually ended with an 11th place finish. We have to change the mentality of our club, stop living in the past, do you honestly believe that a Man Utd or Chelsea would bring back a team who brought up sore memories for their fans. It's pretty clear that we can't match the level of monetary power that these clubs have and they'll be back in the champions league next year and we won't and won't for a long long time. We have to get back to that big club mentality and not be the pitied boys and I cringe for this spectacle. Rooney is coming back, for what exactly, so he can kiss the badge, oh wait, he did that a few times not only in a blue shirt but also a red one. It's cringeworthy it really is and just shows the mentality at the club at the moment. I'm a glass half full guy when it comes to Everton but I cannot stand the picture of the club it paints. I wish the big man a hero of mine all the best.
