2024/25 Beto

Old school number 9.
He offers something that DCL doesn't - as a target man we can lump it up and there's a better than even chance he'll get it and allow midfielders time to get up in support. Strong as an ox. Better finisher than I gave him credit for - but that's also linked to confidence. He was excellent yesterday. Even if DCL was fit I think Moyes would prefer Beto for his style.
It also helps that we can actually get numbers up to support him. DCL was always isolated so his flick on headers were pointless.

So you really think after a few goals he’s some superstar striker. I’d bet you as much money as you want he won’t be our starting number 9 next season. He did well second half yesterday, first half I thought he offered very little apart from the goal obviously
He’s just the new niasse scores a few goals and some fans wet thier knickers
Here's a classic example of how hyperbole abounds in football.

You really think there are only 2 levels for a footballer? Crap or superstar striker? Nothing in between?

I don't think anyone is suggesting he's top notch.

Just that, with a run of games, a team playing to his strengths and a bit of confidence individually and collectively, he's clearly a useful player.

It's a shame because I actually think a fit and motivated DCL would be a great Moyes striker. Like really really good. We'll probably never know now though!

Quite frankly Beto is a throwback to the centre forwards of old and you know what modern day defences can't handle it.
He gave the Liverpool defence a torrd time.
Clumsy at times , but has the physical presence to impose himself on games. Likes the ball payed into the channel and is excellent 1v 1. Something of the Cyril Regis about him.
To those questioning if he will be here, next season.
The answer is simple other clubs will be looking at him over the last few games and wishing they had such a hard working striker who loves the shirt.
Try and appreciate and develop what we have.

Showed great composure for that goal.
Keeper closed him down and a defender sliding in.

Lifted the ball perfectly, and left them both sprawled on the deck.

Nicely weighted pass from Alcaraz, and a brilliant finish from Beto.

UTFT

He’s a much much better player than those.

Are you a DCL fan by chance?
I'm not picking sides on our strikers like that. I can just see that Betos overall game needs work, he is extremely clumsy and prone to stupid things, for instance that pass shot thing he did in the second half, it made zero sense what he did.

It's ok to say he's not the best overall whilst also saying he has fantastic finishing, don't get it confused I want Beto to succeed I am always over the moon when the lad scores because he clearly bleeds blue I can just recognise his shortcomings as well, which is fair.

Spot on.

There are many strikers that occupy the middle (solid) ground in the prem. Mateta, Woods (barring this season), Pedro, Raul, Jesus, Delap, Jackson to name just a few and any of those we’d have gladly taken in January and most will average 10 goals a season.

He can clearly finish and is calm in the moments before shooting, which is critical and his attitude is spot on as is his work rate.

Absolutely rooting for the guy, both as an Evertonian and as a man.

It’s no different to some on
Here dragging up old posts to say I told you so
Because he’s scored a few goals and had a few good games

I thought him and doucoure were poor in the derby, especially doucoure. Some thought they played great, all about opinions.
Some would be happy to have them 2 up top next season, I wouldn’t

It's such a weird mindset this.

As is the people pitting Beto and DCL against each other as though in order for one to succeed the other needs to be diminished.
