Been to America but Thailand beats it hands down for the friendly people and the culture and before any hornballs get the wrong idea, just go there. it will open your eyes to a people who have so little can be so happy.

Intend to go there either next year or the year after. I've heard once you've covered flights, staying there is ridiculously cheap?

*** also, any advice on where to go / stay? Don't know if I'll be going with friends or alone, so whats the likelyhood of meeting other travellers.

Dominican Rep, Ayia napa, tallaca, morcombe bay (cockle picking)

Sheppey doesn't make the list then ? suprised really given all the coppin' off you did.

My 7 year working holiday won't really be bettered by myself tbh, but within that spell there are

2 full summers in greece
couple of months in Italy
18 months with Amsterdam as my playground
year in oz
3 months in Thailand
3 months in Bali
2 months in Malaysia

I love travelling tbh, even when you hitch and get dropped in the middle of nowhere and have to kip in a loading bay in the rain, when you cant get a lift for hours, when you can hardly keep your eyes open cos you've been awake for so long and not eaten and then BANG!! you're out like a light in a public place and wake up with some 'arl french geezer prodding you to make sure you're not dead, or in Stuttgart train station where some punky/ new age traveller type wakes you up so you don't get arrested, and then takes you for a scran and a beer out of his beggin' money.
all part of the rich tapestry that is life.

It is very cheap to stay there, stick to tye touristy places for safety and when you have a bit of confidence, fo to where the locals hang out, like I said, it will open your eyes. Hope to go there this October and get the second part of the bat out of hell trilogy on my back, see my pics.

Cuba

Havana reminds me of Liverpool

Stunning buildings next door to tatty, battered, wrecked ones

And boy, can those ladies dance!

Florida keys - Marco Island.
But there is a lot to be said for England, Warwick castle, Beaston castle, Conway castle, so much history and atmosphere in Britain that we are in fact spoilt, and then there are the green and pleasant fields that allow one to wander lonely as a cloud...
