Best midfield ?

That's why I mentioned the games during the second half of the 08-09 season, when we started to get good results against the bigger teams. The games in January and Febuary spring to mind, we beat City, Villa, Spurs, two draws and a win against Liverpool, a draw against Chelsea, Arsenal and a tight 1-0 loss against Manchester Utd. Thats not even mentioning the games against Manchester Utd and Arsenal earlier in the season when Moyes used Osman as a central midfielder.

We used two anchormen against Chelsea (Castillo and Neville) from what I can remember, but Arteta was injured. Other than that, I'm stuggling. I think the results speak for themselves really, lots of losses have turned into draws and wins.

We will use two deep lying midfielders at times during the season, some games will dictate that (teams pushing us back), I have no doubt that Arteta will be one of those 'two' though. There's no evidence to suggest Moyes would push him forward, I can't even recall a game where's he's played in and around the striker. Cahill does, Fellaini and Osman have, Rodwell's been doing it of late...

It's all well and good having 'options' but you've got to be realistic.

Two quality midfielders fighting for every position in the team is what we need. At the moment I reckon we've got about 1.8.

Cahill and Rodwell can alternate games based on form.

No central defenders there mate. Otherwise, like the team. Not sure about Billy, would play Anichebe at the moment, but time will tell who´s the better option.

Gueye will probably make way for Distin at the bench. My god, what a team we have! Yobo, Hibbo Osman, Vaughan, and some youngsters may well be out of our match squad !

I think our midfield is where our games will be won and lost next season. We dont really have the striker who can win a game by himself like Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea so we will have to do it like Arsenal and play teams of the park if we are going to win games. So because of this I think we should play 4-2-3-1 like Germany did in the world cup. In the two I think we should use Fellaini and Arteta as Fellaini is our best ball winner and box to box midfilder where Arteta is the only player at the club who could be cosidered good enough to compete with the best in the league at deep lying playmaker.

Obviously if we keep Pienaar he will be starting on the left and that is where he should stay. His partnership with Baines is vital for us and I wouldnt want that to be changed as it may not work.

At RM we dont really have many options and havent for a long time. I think this season will be make or break for Anichebe. He has got the raw ability to be unplayable and he seems to be improving his technical side of the game as shown with pre-season games. If he could make a good partnership with Coleman then we could have found a younger version of Baines and Pienaar. Anichebe is a unique winger considering his size and ability so he should start a few games. Unless ofcourse we sign Donovan.

At AM we have a lot of options. Cahill, Bilyaletdinov and Rodwell. Id start with Bilyaletdinov because he has had a break now so can show what he is like when hes fresh. His passing ability and long range shooting make him perfect for the hole. He can play defence splitting passes that Cahill isnt capable of and Rodwell isnt yet. He would be a great link between Arteta and the striker.

Fellaini Arteta
Anichebe Bilyaletdinov Pienaar

This.

Coleman - Heitinga - Jagielka - Baines ---

--- Anichebe --- Fellaini ------ Pienaar ---

Then we could bring Rodwell, Beckford & Gueye on in the second half as impact sub!

That's what I would start with, first game.

As long as people love the club enough/happy enough to bide their time, then they're rather great options to bring on to do some damage!
