I quite like Bernard tbh.
If he was a lad who came up through the youth and was on 30k a week or something I’d definitely be keeping him in the squad but we can surely spend 100-120k or whatever it is better.
How can you like him, what’s to like. We are in the business of trying to be a successful football team. We have a lot of players nowhere near good enough and he’s one of them.

Let hope this gets done. Will be gutted if he’s still an Everton player tomorrow

Pace and Bernard in one sentence. LOL. Ice skating and Bernard for me. The guy was unable to play football in the premier league. You cant put a child on a premier league football pitch. That should be a law!

Very frustrating player, he had the talent but at times it was like he just couldn’t use it. Bad touches, falling over himself, running down blind alleyways. It didn’t help he was ridiculously slow either. Only Everton could have James, Bernard Gomes Richarlison in the same team and struggle to create anything.

Don’t know what the reasons were but the bottom line is his contribution was just nowhere near good enough. Struggled to stand out against lower league teams at times. Not what you expect from a Brazilian international who had been playing CL football.

He’s a skilful footballer who links up nicely with other skilful footballers, he reminds me of Pienaar personally.
Unlike all the other deadwood we’re getting rid of he’s actually a squad player that needs replacing.

I'll be quite happy if he's still here.

If we replace him with a better player then fair enough. But if/when he does leave, there will still be one or two players worse than him still on our books.

If he goes and we don't replace him, there will come a time this season, probably numerous times in fact, that we rue the decision to sell him. Even the game on Saturday, we needed something to change the game for us and there was literally nobody on the bench Carlo felt able to bring on.

You have a massive dislike for the guy, which is fair enough as you are entitled to your opinion. But it's so annoying the way you slag off anybody and everybody who shows even a minimal level of support for him.

I suspect that his wages will be playing a large part in our decision to offload him, but as you mention he's probably the only player who can still do a job.

The problem with Bernie is his wages. As other posters have pointed out, if he was on 40k instead of 110k (or whatever giant figure he is on) I think most people would be happy to have him as an option from the bench. Getting his wages off the balance sheet is probably a good thing but not replacing a forward when we are already desperately short has the potential for disaster.

Yeah, I accept that his wages are an issue, especially with him being little more than a squad player. In hindsight I think it would have been better had we paid him a signing on fee and lower wages, but we'd already spent heavily on Richy, Digne, Mina and, no doubt, a loan fee for Gomes that summer, so our finances likely dictated the terms of Bernard's contract.

If he does go, when we look back at what he cost the club during his tenure here, you'll likely find that he was one of our cheaper outlays. Especially if we manage to bring in a fee for him.
