2020/21 Bernard

Wouldn't be surprised if he left this month. Just seems to be far too much smoke with this Roma stuff.

For what it's worth it'll be a shame to seem him go. Like Bernard me, I was excited when we signed him as I'd always rated him since his Shakhtar days.

That’s a nice dream. Though I’m not sure why Leverkusen would sell at this point of the season currently sitting in 3rd.

Because the lad is desperate to move and money talks. If we bid €40 they'll accept it.

Its leverkusen and bailey were talking about here. I'm not suggesting we take mbappe from psg.

Directly involved in us beating Sheffield a few weeks ago. Like it or not he’s currently our best wide option as a sub. And if we ever hope for James to play centrally, we need to buy there already. He’s not great, but he’s better than what’s behind him...
Not at 140 grand a week (or whatever it is) he's not

Disappointed because when we signed him he seemed nailed on for Chelsea or Arsenal and then we swooped in on a free. He started really well as well and the thought of him supplying Richy that season was exciting. There’s been a few games where he’s hit a very good level like the Pickford derby when he was terrorising Alexander Arnold, and the Leicester away game when he set up Richarlisons goal. Great touch, trickery, decent turn of pace, good end product.

The majority of the time though he’s been nowhere near that level. Unbelievably slow, apathetic, lazy touches, just doesn’t impact the game at all. I don’t know what happened to him but he’s not the player we thought we were getting. If someone had said when he arrived that he’d be struggling to get in ahead of Iwobi Gordon or Sigurdsson in this team no one would have believed it.

I think he’ll go now and won’t be a miss to the squad which seems a waste but he was free, we’ll get a fee for him, and get huge wages off the book for a player not contributing enough.

I always just assumed that was the general threat anyway when they 'ask' if they can mind your car! Say no at your peril. lol Me dad always gave them two quid when we came back, windows remained intact.
My mate always used to judge who was likely to be the hardest of them. Then he would smile and say, “alright kid, how’s your da doing? I haven’t seen him in ages, tell him I was asking about him, and your mam” it never failed!

I think you're a little harsh on that really. I dont think his work rate or care is in doubt personally. Just think the game is too quick for him here. Occasionally as you put he has a game that suits him and he looks great, dynamic, smart on the ball, a threat. I think it was Newcastle at home and maybe like Burnley at home last season under CA where he had two really solid games. We all thought great, Ancelotti will find a spot for him, he'll have space, he'll do his thing however it showed it was the opposition sitting back that gave him the time he needed. Hasn't done it enough.

He doesn't look the same player than when we brought him in initially either. Like his touch for the winner at Sheff Utd, quick thinking, good awareness and a really good touch, but not a common occurrence in getting it right. Sad it hasn't worked out but dont think his character on the pitch is questionable, just the execution of what he tries to do sometimes is lacking.

A shame as I could see the appeal of bringing him in, just hasn't worked out. Hopefully we get a reasonable fee and his wages off.

Easy mate. Or one of those 6-year-old kids who claim to look after your car while you go watch the game at Goodison.

I suppose the question is whether he could dodge a brick like George W. Bush dodging a shoe or not.

I figure if W. was quick enough, Bernard is quick enough and the Scouse kid is done.

I don't know (genuinely) if you're thinking of someone else? I'm pretty sure it was West Ham that we were supposedly fending off for his signature, not one of the big boys. He looks the same now as he always has really, a really nice footballer who's capable of a great bit of skill and has decent movement and passing, but who's a bit lightweight and never really produces much when it comes to it. If he was on £40k a week i'd think letting him go was madness, if he's on £140k then it'd be madness not to.
