2020/21 Bernard

He shows himself for the ball constantly and makes pretty good runs that opened it up for Digne consistently. Or if you mean defensively, maybe. I just recall Bernard being pretty tenacious trying to get the ball back.

This may be blinkered but I'm being fully honest saying that as well. I recall him being a LOT better on both sides of the ball than any LW besides Richarlison.
I mean defensively. I just said without the ball because he isn't really being asked to defend so to speak. It is more about his pressing and such.

And I think he works hard no doubt, tenacious sure, but ultimately not much comes of it. I don't tie any defensive effectiveness to our wingers personally the last few seasons. Richarlison is good but this year especially he's had bad moments too.

I mean, I totally get it, he makes more than 100k/w and he sits on the bench on the best of days. I'm just saying I think he gets slated far too often for how he is with us. He's fully competent. We usually look pretty effective going forward when he is on the pitch.

It's hard to kind of square this because he scored in the game but on the whole our worst attack game was probably United and it is also his only start. I mean it is that or Saints which also happens to be the game he played a lot. I'm not saying it is his fault but I also can see how Carlo wasn't thrilled with him after that.

I just don't think he offers very much. I mean someone said earlier in here about how he clearly has technical skills and I'm just not sure. I know he'd put me to shame but when you're talking about him compared to similar attacking midfielders who don't have the raw pace to beat players that way, guys like James, KdB, Fernandes, and Ziyech, is he actually good technically? I don't think he compares favorably at all.

I've been harsh on the guy and I almost feel bad but as a free transfer we should have called it what it was earlier than we did. He's gotten way too many shots for what he's provided.

He has plenty of technical ability, but he doesn’t deploy it well. Also. He is petrified£ of shooting. I think he is still mentally screwed from his world cup debacle, just like Ross Barkley.

Alright squad player, but probably one of the only players I’d be fine to sell, we’d get a decent fee for and save on wages. Also suffered that arguably our most important player plays his position, and even a Richarlison who isn’t playing at his best is still comfortably putting up better figures than he ever has. The amount of goals/assists when he does play doesn’t warrant his wage. Feel he would do well in Italy, thought we’d got someone similar to Papu Gomez at Atalanta after Leicester away but he never seemed to get an assist for us since and to get top 6 you need more end product from players like him. Definitely don’t dislike him or think he’s anywhere near as bad as others in the squad, just one of the only dispensable ones I can imagine us getting some money for, preferably if we had a right winger lined up already

I've been consistently saying the guy isn't very good for 2 straight years but sure I'm rewriting.

My record of saying Lookman is good is even longer. Also no rewriting.

As I said last time someone called me out, I know I'm wrong on things and will freely admit it, but I'm not doing the legwork to find them. Example being I wasn't as sold on Ancelotti as some but he seems to be here for the long haul and I think we probably did the best we possibly could do getting him here.

Now your turn.
My turn for what, exactly? Telling everyone how awesome I am? I'll leave that to you big lad, you spam every thread with it every day, after all.

P.S. Why are you so obsessed with Lookman? You bring it up every time you want to show me how much of a football genius you are. I reckon I've posted abar 3 times about Lookman in my entire time on here yet you act like we have some long standing feud about him. Maybe your confusing me with someone else, or maybe it's just the voices again?

We had a long conversation about Bernard vs Lookman this summer. Not my issue if you can't remember it.

There's a handful of people on here who seem to have a problem with my posting. Whatever. I'm here to talk about Everton and there is a strong number who do that with me, no issues. It isn't me "being awesome" it's just me posting my thoughts.

I'm going to be forthcoming and say I don't know if it is due to my dislike of that player but I think Bernard has shown a LOT more in his tenure here than Sigurdsson. Bernard closes down, he tries to get the ball back, etc.

Again, it may be solely down to me just not liking Gylfi at all but I think Bernard has been better objectively minus the goals.
Both been awful and shouldn’t be here next season, but Carlo trust’s siggurdsson, before Bernard. And he see’s them everyday

I said at the time, a free transfer Brazilian international at a good age, signs for a mid table club. Why are no champions league clubs falling over themselves to sign this guy. 2 years on I think we all have the answer.

It’s like the Brazilian Anderson who West Ham signed. It was all what a coup for West Ham, how did they get this player. He had about 10 Good games before dropping off a cliff.

There’s a reason why the likes of us, West Ham, Newcastle, villa Maybe start to throw wolves into that mix. Are spending a lot of money and getting nowhere. It’s because we get the next level player down that cost a fortune and the top teams don’t won’t.

Hopefully we are at least seeing a change at our club now.

Dont think we will get a decent fee for him. Even if he had years left on his contract. Possibly fair to say those outside of Everton have forgot he even exists.

Nope, you kept bringing up Lookman, like you're doing now. I have no interest in Lookman, it didn't work out for him here, it didn't work out for him at Leipzig, he's doing fine in a poor Fulham side. Good luck to him. I don't have a pathological loathing for him that I need to shove down everyone's throat. All. Of. The. Time. Can you same the same about wee Bernie?

On the other point, the fact that, as you put it, a handful of people think you are very, very, incredibly tedious, and not just one person, might give you pause. It won't, of course, but it should.

Which camp am I in?
