I like Bernard but he needs a run of games and Carlo Ancelotti doesn't seem prepared to give the lad any sort of extended playing time. It appears that, for now, he's to remain little more than a very costly bench warmer for us. If that is going to be the case, Marcel Brands needs to actively start trying to offload Bernard to free up the funds he's being paid. Then we could bring in someone more suited to the managers' needs.

It's no coincidence that Siggy is now putting in a shift he now has had a run of games. Still Bernard is not winger...

They were. I mean go back and look at the Brazil squad for the 2014 World Cup. It isn't exactly the same as that 2002 team in terms of all time greats of the game. They've got Neymar, Marcelo, Thiago Silva and Maicon past his peak (although Wikipedia says he's still playing somehow). And 3 of those are defenders obviously. It was a down period for them.
