...Bernard is a smashing player and I think he’s always a good option to have. His goalscoring record suggests that’s an area that will never improve, but he’s very composed in possession of a football and that makes him very useful, particularly away from homes against the best teams when you need to keep the ball.

Bernard is different to the other wide players and that gives his Manager options to manage games better. Age shouldn’t be a major factor, he’s not dependent on pace or physicality so should be useful well into his 30s.

That first paragraph is a great description of a player who plays in holding midfield but for a winger is crucially short of descriptions about how he helps your team score goals. He's a fine player but probably not one a team that could afford him would want unless he takes a serious upward turn in his ability to produce himself from what he's done since joining us. If Gordon comes through or we sign a proper RW and have Richarlison as a left sided option again Bernard could find himself down the order and we could find ourselves with no minutes for him and no real way of moving him on.

Thanks to Brands got shut of a lot of waste in the summer.

Quite a few of them are only loans which suggests we still are paying some percentage of the wages.

That's not a criticism of Brands because he was dealt an impossible hand but those players are still drains on our resources. We need to be careful to not have that type of thing happen anymore. If I'm picking current members of the team that it could be it's probably Sigurdsson and then Bernard. Both are earning more than their attacking third production makes them worth.

No they don't it's just obvious Bernard improves that team, don't tell me you don't think swapping him for the Icelandic waster would not of improved us.
