2019/20 Bernard

Thought Iwobi was poor Saturday, it seems to take him two or three touches just to get control of the ball. All about opinions, for me Bernard and Digne are a much better partnership.
Iwobi wasn't at his best, I'd put that down to a lot of factors beyond his control as much as just him, but he still got on the end of our best chance, something Bernard has done very rarely. My opinion is that you play attackers who produce in the final third before you play ones who don't and between Bernard and Iwobi there is no contest there. Bernard vs Sigurdsson is a different story.

Pienaar never had good goal or assist stats even though for seasons, all our attacking play came through him and Baines.

It's about how they contribute to the play, in transitions, or allow others to play.
Yes but I don’t see how he contributes much within 25 yards of the goal. He consistently gets in good positions and his final ball or decision is poor. I like the guy I really do and I’d love to watch him in a five a side team but he’s like a rabbit in the headlights when he sees the goal

Pienaar ever have a 10 month period with 1 goals and 0 assists? Because unless he does something against West Ham in two weeks that will be Bernard's record since Boxing Day last season.

Pienaar played week in, week out and Bernard hasn't.

Could be wrong but Pienaar's highest ever goal return in a season was 4. Assists? 4.

Last season Bernard got 3 assists and one goal in his first season.

If we take off the Siggurdson tinted stat glasses and watch the man play, we work better as a team with him in it.

We are in the relegation zone.

Red lights are flashing. We need to produce goals but this fella is a massive liability defence wise so is it really the right spot now to have him in every week?

I cant have him on my mind in away games to be honest. Just see him lost and bullied.

Are you talking about the right player here?

Bernard helps out in defence a lot more than any of our other wide men,

We say this as if Pienaar was some sort of footballing God though. He was good like, but maybe if he had got more goals and assists, we'd have broken through that glass ceiling instead of becoming known for being best of the rest.

I like Bernard, and I think the team is better with him in it, but that doesn't really excuse him from scoring or assisting. He needs to do the knitting together and have an end product, not one or the other.

Which he's said he needs improve on. Again, it was his first season in the prem.

He's more busy and willfully wants the ball than Siggurdson. He's also more intelligent than Richarlison. Also has a great partnership with Digne as well as a great engine.

There's a huge problem with our attacking 4. But the most technically gifted and most intelligent out of all of them is Bernard. So when nothings working and you know him and Digne do work together, you've got to play em.

I personally think the reason why he's not, is due to his height and power compared to Iwobi.

Bernard last season in the latter part was key in how he pressed and managed to win back possession in dangerous areas and spring us into attack, the fact silva has removed this from the team and his partnership with digne is yet another reason he should be fired

At the moment...we can't get near goal and when we do we're missing chances (we're 4th in chances missed in the league) anyway.

Can't see him making it any worse.

Pienaar got 2 and 6 in his first season. 12/13 he had 6 and 8. I'd be shocked if Bernard touched that.

And he played a ton last season and started every game from March until he was dropped against Wolves. That's plenty of time. That's pretty much week in week out imo.

The thing is I know it was his first season but there has been no progress. He was the same player in October of last year that he was in April and he is still that player now. And to me that's not that good.

However I do think he needs to play over Sigurdsson. You just can't have a player in the attack that is that uninvolved. Either play Bernard or go to a different shape in midfield but either way Sigurdsson has to sit out.

You don’t need to sell him to me, I’ve just said I’d have him in the team. My point was that the pienaar defence isn’t a great one, and he needs to directly influence games more. I think the reason Iwobi has been picked ahead of him is because he scored more goals in his first 2 games than Bernard did in his first season. I’m not saying that’s the right decision, but I’m pretty sure that’s the logic.

I like him him and Digne is one of the few good partnerships we have. I would start him Iwobi should be at 10 or in a midfield three. Sig should be benched.

Bernard has never been tried in Sigurdsson’s position and he never will be, Sigurdsson will continue to be selected because he offers more from dead ball situations, corners and free kicks, it doesn’t matter to Silva that the Iceland player has offered next to nothing from open play all season, and doesn’t look like doing anything different in the near future. Bernard should be in on his work rate alone, the amount of work he does with and without the ball, puts Sigurdsson and Schneiderlin to shame, that’s if they had any.

I'm suggesting drop Sigurdsson for Bernard but I would move Iwobi central. I agree Bernard should not and will not be tried centrally. And yeah at this point I'm playing him for work rate and willingness to get involved and if something comes from him that's a bonus. Digne can take set plays.
