Players get enough protection from refs nowadays anyway. It’s nit the physicality, but more the pace of the league he needs to adjust to. Saying that he has still influenced games in the champions league, which is the highest standard of all (knock out games not group stages) so I have doubts about the quality the lad possesses.

Sterling's deceptively strong.

He was giving Mina piggyback during the World Cup and still dribbling with the ball.

Aye, Sterling certainly is strong comes out of 50-50s and guards the ball well for a little lad - uses his ass like Pienaar and Dogleash.

Bernard’s a tricky player with the ball, a bit like Silva in ways. From the little I’ve seen he still puts a foot in, remember he got into a little battle with Yaya in the CL and held his own okay, but Yaya is a beast and can out power pretty much any player.

I think Bernard will show flashes of brilliance for a good few months until he’s fully settled in the league then we may see a more consistent performer from next season.

The fact that everyone wants defenders who bring the ball out these days probably tells you how physical the league has become. And so what if it is that physical? They’d have to catch him to muscle him off the ball.

Anyone else think he will use Bernard behind Tosun like he did with Evandro at Hull?

I don't think Siggurdson will be his starting choice there by halfway through the season
