Benefit Steet

And the logic that only skilled labour is of benefit is the sort of close-minded thinking that betrays a trust in freedom. Every single economy can benefit from cheaper labour. If people are willing to provide goods and services for £5/hr that you or I can buy, then why should they be stopped from doing so?

History has shown that great economies such as the US and Hong Kong were BUILT on mass immigration of unskilled labour.

Yes I agree that Immigrants shouldn't be allowed benefits... because there shouldn't be such a thing as publically run social benefits system.

Dear oh dear. The minimum wage exists to remove the paying of wages that do not provide a sustainable income level in our society. Removing that level would allow people to be exploited through their desperation.

As for the 2nd highlighted piece, in our society the idea that we should provide a safety net for people should they hit hard times, was the principle behind the Welfare state and a sound one it was to. Thank the Lord that we had people with a social conscience in place to make that decision as opposed to text book economists.

It'd be rubbish though. Most remakes tend to be. Sitcoms seem to have been replaced by panel quiz shows these days (sadly).

I actually meant the descriptions of the newspapers thing
Papers change and evolve
The Daily Mail for instance In 1910 Lord North(?) said of it... written by Office Boys, for Office Boys
by the late 70's early 80's Jim Hacker says.... is read by the wives of the people who run the Country
Now, it seems to this ex-pat, that it is only just above ( substitute for Freddie Starr ) Muslims ate my Hamster

As for panel shows Have I got news for you(?) had a slot about how various papers would report Historic Events, in this case The Charge of the light Brigade

The Church Times... Cannons ( canons, church, get it ) to the right of them
The Church Mirror... Cannons to the Left of them
The Sun... Lord Lucan spotted at Balaclava

The minimum wage guarantees unemployment to those whose productivity is not able to meet it. Like it or not, there are those in society that aren't worth £6.50/hr or whatever it is to an employer. Does the minimum wage guarantee these people a minimum income? No, it just guarantees them unemployment.

Why do you think unemployment is highest amongst the young an unskilled? Because their skills aren't yet worth £6.50. And every year the NMW gets jacked up it makes the situation worse. I ALWAYS ask - if the NMW is such a good idea, why don't they just make it £50/hr, or £500/hr? What happens then? Do you think that YOU would still have a job? Answer this question directly.

You can Thank The Lord all you like, but if it were possible to just legislate away poverty and hardship by introduction of laws that make demands of those who have more in society, then it would have been done centuries ago, but the world just doesn't work that way.

A £50 per hour minimum wage isn't realistic so it's an idiotic argument.

Anyone who can't understand the basic social principle of fair rates of pay and the dangers of not having legislation to ensure that they are provided, isn't worth my time. Sorry.

There's a quite incredible misunderstanding of what the NMW is going on here - no offence @evilwebby but I've just been laughing for quite some time at your last few posts - even the right wingers who disagree with NMW have at least a rudimentary understanding of the reason it's in place, and you're the very first to be confused as to why it couldn't be £50 per hour!

Ex gf of mine was refused a 2 week tourist visa despite tickets booked, cadh in her bank--resident in singapore and letters from UK nationals backing up the validity. Had previously travelled to switzerland, france and holland with no drama but rejected as no evidence of a long term relationship (had dated 3 years then with evidence) for a holiday??!!

I havent been back to the UK since --DISGUSTED.

Yet, someone from Europe with absolutely no value to add can be paid to do nothing in the UK.

As for an earlier comment on unskilled workers, there is no need to have them come in from overseas if there is an idle local workforce sitting at home and claiming benefits.

What a stupid country.
