Hi guys, im new around here and please forgive me for being a spurs fan. Ive been lurking on here since midway through last season as I was really interested in the "Martinez Project" as for me he was somebody I wish we had gone for when we sacked Arry instead of appointing AVB.
Anyway, I feel compelled to actually reply to one of your threads and especially this one because it is almost exactly the same as whats being written on Tottenham forums and being spoken about by spurs up and down the country.
First of all I think the OP may have over-reacted to a poor result when he created this thread but he did make some very valid points. Unfortunately for us (Spurs & Everton) Man City and Chelsea got this influx of cash and has basically blown the Premier League out of the water. Lets be honest there are only 2 or maybe 3 teams (as I believe Utd will continue to spend) that are gonna win the league nowadays which in itself is a really sad state of affairs as whats the point in competing in a competition that you're never going to win? Also if Chelsea and Man City hadn't got the influx of cash then chances are it would be us 2 that would be in the best place to gobble up the extra spot of entering "the promise land".
Your style of play right now is very much like the style that AVB loved so much, slow build up, lots of sideways passing, retaining possession and scoring the almost "perfect goal" every time. When it working, like last season then its great, when things get a little bit tougher and its not paying off then its the most frustrating thing to watch as a supporter. You just want to yell at someone to get it forward or to coin a sunday league phrase "put it in the mixer". For what its worth, every Tottenham supporter will tell you that we as a club are still broken from the AVB days, our play is still as slow now (until the last 2 games) as it was when AVB thankfully left. So what im saying is, I can understand the supporters anger but be very careful as we have proved its a very slippery slope to get on and even harder to get off it.
As alluded to earlier, "the promise land" of champions league. Before we started challenging for the race for the top 4 every other season lets be honest with each other we were [Poor language removed] (and so were Everton). At the time it was a highlight just to win a bloody game but the fans were brilliant no matter who we were playing. Nowadays because you're in a battle for the top 4 EVERY game feels like groundhog day, you can feel it in the stadium and in the match day forums, every game is "must win". This leads to anxiety in the crowd and every missed chance or misplaced pass is greeted with extra long groans which lets face it doesn't help anyone. Whats worse is that every game that you don't win feels like a defeat (in our case this season, it mainly has) so the level of anxiety and frustration goes up another gear.
Im not sure how to end my first post on here and whether ive actually made any sense in what I was trying to say but ill post it anyway. Here's hoping we both finish the season ahead of the other gobshites from Liverpool hey?
