Baxter Ready?

Well I don't agree with senseless opinions no. And I don't care what people think of me for having that school of thought. I like some recognise that this guy has frightening talent. As far as I'm concerned that trumps any level of experience.

HB responded against Baxter getting anywhere near the first team (even though he has just played in 2 senior friendlies) in a way I expected he would do. So I'm going to disregard that.

You see I think he is good enough to play, and I highlighted my reasons. Those who said no he isn't didn't really highlight them with any conviction. Plus they have taken what he has done tonight and dismissed it completely.

Be it because he's a RS? Scared of building him up incase he goes to Man U? Or the conventional out of the box excuse that happens on forums that - he's too young, too inexperienced, bollocks.

How many inexperienced 16 year olds take a free kick and crack it against the bar from 25 yards, and then swing in a pearler of a corner right onto the head of a player who duly scores. Not many.

He's playing friendlies because we have no other strikers available. As these games have proved we don't have a squad at the moment so Moyes is having to use young players. If we had a squad and if we had signed players Jose would be nowhere near the squad.

Did you even watch the match today? He was decent, he looked bright at times but it wasn't anything special. He didn't run the game, he didn't cause them many problems and all in all he didn't see enough of the ball. He had a few nice touches but that was all. Promising but don't get carried away.

I highlighted my reasons perfectly well. He is young, he is inexperienced and he doesn't have the physique to cope at the moment. Technically whilst talented in that area he still needs work. It's not like he's a Van der Meyde or an Arteta on the ball, he's not and there's a massive difference at the moment. So no it's not bollocks. If inexperience didn't mean anything then 16 years olds would be playing week in week out. They don't because there not ready.

Why would we care if he's a Red. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. Peter Reid was an Red as was Ossie. Two of my favorite players. It's got nothing to do with that and I don't believe other Evertonians are bothered by the club he supports.

He's a talented boy, no question about that but you are overrating his talent. He's never proved himself in anything higher than the Acadamy. Atleast let him have a go in the reserves to see what level he actually is at. We've seen with players like JPK that the step up from acadamy football to reserve football can be hard for them.

Jose need to be worked in, he's nowhere near ready I'm afraid.

Ok fair points. But I think he is ready for the first team squad, why? because I recognise talent. Seriously, I'm not trying to piss you off - I just feel he would benefit more from being in the first team squad then in the reserves. Its also a little unfair to compare him with JPK.

It could have been anyone to be honest, playing in pre season friendlies means nothing. Also looking at what striking options we actually have at the moment makes it even less of an acheivement (Wrong word but am too tired)

Pity it isnt American Football then he could be our specialist

that made me laugh. i don't know why.

a couple of the younger players last night did not look up to much but i like the look of rodwell and baxter. also lukas up front reminds me of another anichebe.

rodwell is a big lad for 16 and he looks very athletic. he could be the one from the current batch most likely to succeed.

whos he been playing for?

and for baxter...the lad himself is ready, but as he's only 16, moyes needs to be shrewd, we dont want him bursting onto the scene like the fat little knob ed and then we watch united rob him from us before we even get chance to get him on a proper contract.

very good display tonight, obviously technically very gifted

Hes been playing in the England U 19 championships mate, Gosling that is!

We can have 7 players on the bench this year. We barely have a starting 11. I wont be surprised to him have a game.

He may find some playing time this season.

I just think he'd be better off in the reserves playing on a regular basis to improve his game.

He's got talent, just not near the finished article yet.

You may see him in the odd cup match perhaps.

Well which 16 year old is the finished article? Which 18 year old, 21 year old or 23 year old is the finished article?

Sometimes though you just can't hold players back.

If he is going to get games then he should earn it. Prove himself at his own level and see if he is as good as people are making out. He'd done nothing to earn a place on the bench I'm afraid.

If he's shows he's good enough then I'm all for him coming through this season. I love to see local lads coming through, In all honesty though I don't think he's ready.

Victor and Vaughany earned there chance, hopefully Baxter will.

I see your point.

I should have said that I don't think he's developed enough at this juncture for first team football.

He needs more games in the reserves where he can be playing and improving on a regular basis.

Ok, so if he hasn't done enough to earn a place on the bench, then why did he start the last two friendlies?

When Vaughan made his debut, he hadn't done half the things Baxter has done.

Vaughans injured, Victor and Yak are away and for whatever reason AJ isnt getting played. so obviously the next in line is Lucas, Agard and Baxter.

Well that's not true, because Jose is playing as an attacking midfielder. So why not play Arteta there? He was on the bench and came on.

He didn't have to play Jose, so why did he play him?
