I don’t blame him for leaving to be honest, wanted to further his career and move to a bigger club with spending power
That's a perfectly reasonable position to take, although I think it was a bit underhanded of him to use personal knowledge of Ferguson's retirement plans to effectively shaft Everton out of a compensation fee. The Fellaini and Baines bids seemed to upset a lot of people, too, but I'd say that type of thing is par for the course in football.

I never had much love for him once it became clear that he was in bed with a board that I couldn't stand, but then he more than got his just desserts by becoming a national laughing stock, so I'm fairly neutral towards him now.

I loved Mick Lyon's he was an absolute 100% er and like Dave Hickson would probably have died for us. But thinking back, like I have on numerous occasions about why we fell short so many times in the 70,s apart from Everton luck and dodgy refs. I think there where a lot better center half's out there than Mick.
Likes of Phil Thompson, Kevin Beattie, Old Dave Watson were only a fraction better than Lyons. He could have easily ended up getting plenty of caps.

He was just the same as Dave Watson (Everton) for me. Little in front of him got past, inspirational, good positional sense, great in the air, threat in other box, would have died for the shirt. Tad more pace and first touch would have been the GOAT!
