So you've slaughtered the fan base for being impatient and then in the last paragraph insinuated Beto is so bad its someone laundering money lol.

Beto has been her for 3 years now and has shown zero signs of improving. Hes as poor today as he was when we first signed him. Barry has been here 6 months and has already replaced him as our starting striker 3 months ago.

How much patience should i have for a player in your opinion? Or do you think that because im having a go at fans ripping our young players apart after 3 months. I suddenly must never be allowed to say a player is bad, because that makes sense doesnt it.

Love a good straw man argument myself too.

obviously because youve just put one :coffee:

Of course everyone wants young talent that can improve into stars of tomorrow, don’t think anyone wants that at the cost of the absolute dirge we have to watch upfront right now though.
£27m isn’t top dollar of course, but it’s hardly peanuts either, at 23 he should at least look like a capable striker.

If he’s improved over the last few months, god knows what whoever scouted him in Spain saw.

I genuinely hope this post gets thrown back at me in 18months, but he looks dreadful across his 20 appearances so far, and more concerningly, he actions seem more about his social media profile than getting his head down and delivering on the pitch.

I genuinely cant get my head round this thinking of barry being dreadful.

Hand on heart i think this idea comes from people watching his first few poor games for us and making up their mind and now unable to change it.

We dont create anything for strikers in this team and leave them isolated. Even so hes got 3 goals in 13 starts for us and those 3 come in his last 7 games. He also very good in the air wining 45% of his aerial duels. Maybe if we crossed a ball to him now and then we might see a bit more return on him.

If he carrys on with that form were looking at 4 in his last 17 games so 7 goals in 30 games. 1 in 4 in a youngster first season in the league in a team that doesnt create chances? I think that a good return tbh.

Our cf have had a funny relationship with the 6 yard area for years. I can think of many crosses from Geri, Myko and others which have whizzed last with no striker within 5 yards. It’s a difficult one. Do we get enough crosses in for our cf to expect them or are our cf just not good enough?

Natural conclusion would be that the strikers aren’t good enough as there have undoubtedly been several opportunities for Beto, Barry and their predecessors to score at close range.

Go back to beto's first season and no doubt it will be full of comments of give him time.
I put this question out a few weeks ago on here. If Barry was only on loan with the option to buy for 27m this month who taking up the option to buy.
Be amazed if you find one yes.

Like I say, I truely hope you are right and I am wrong.
What I will say though is he might win 45% of his headers but he’s got a head like a 50p piece.
I’ve seen nothing about him that works as a target man (might not be his game / fault tbf - same as Beto)
But his movement around the box has been so so poor too, and for 6.4 he carry’s on like big pudding.

Couple (literally a couple) of ½ decent lay offs and the ball bouncing off his head doesn’t convince me.
I thought it was really telling in Garners post match interview when Barry scored against Forest, he said he just prayed Barry would score, now you could take take as wanting the best for his teammate / team, but I wonder whether it was more he didn’t really trust him to score.
He certainly made it look difficult with the pretty poor ball to garner to begin with and nearly tripling over his feet trying to control the perfect return pass.

beto has been appalling this year, dunno if he got the hump because of our public hunt for delap

barry should be persisted with he has a lot of potential, but i would like us to sign another in summer, ideally now but can’t see it happening

o/c the appearance numbers might make more sense of that, but with the exception of Dixie Keano the defenders will be from set pieces/ crosses into the box.

I think in general over recent weeks Barry has settled in a lot more. I've said many times but we need our strikers to stop trying to do everyone else's job, they need to pin themselves by the box and be a tap in merchant. Look at the positions of DCL's goals for Leeds, no fancy football just tap ins. Our wingers and other forwards can afford to be more creative with their goals and style of play but a striker needs to be pinned upfront. If Maupay had stopped running like a midfielder and stayed by the goal he'd have had a much easier time here.
