Barry on retirement

Jeez, the level of delusion on here is astounding.

A model professional? Yes. Good enough to claim a starting place in any of this year's top eight? Not a chance.

I actually had a run in with some blues and a kopite about this the night before the semi-final. The kopite started getting lairy, telling me I was talking crap and that he was one of our best players. I acknowledged that our team had been crap this season but asked him whether he would have Barry at Liverpool, and if he would, who would he swap him for? It totally stumped him. He was silent for a good two and a half minutes before accepting that he wouldn't want Barry anywhere near his Liverpool side.

His best days are long behind him, and he's only good enough for lower half teams now. He wouldn't get a starting place at any of the clubs we are wanting to compete with.

In possession he's still as good as anyone as long as he's not pressed too hard but top teams have players who are as good as him with the ball and don't have his weaknesses.

That said when he didn't play we were awful which shows we need to do a lot of business in this area in the summer.

If;
If he get a really good pre season under his belt
If he doesn't leave all his fitness on the training field chasing 20 somethings around the park.
If He knows his own body, the staff acknowledge this and just give him the minimum to keep loose...playing more or less twice a week will keep him up to scratch.
if we don't find somebody better... we have to pay him anyway - so why not

A bit of back ground;

Queen Kenny was appointed as player manager, some months into that it came out - shock horror; QK doesn't do any training in between games
lots of - say it ain't so joe.

Then Bobby Charlton came up with - wait a bit, why should he, it works for him and the team. I could've played on for 2 or 3 more years but wore myself out chasing kids round the training ground trying to show all and sundry that the old guy could still do it.

So unless we find somebody better to do the job he does, we do whatever it takes to keep him playing

In a non gay way the amount of times I have watched Barry's arse push people off the ball like they weren't even there is sexual. Definite keep for me.
