Barry on retirement

Barry is ace.

With a strengthened squad we could pick and choose who we play him against and also have someone to come off the bench to replace him late on in games when he's knackered.

I'll admit, 12 months ago, I didn't really expect him to figure much next season, but he's proven many of us wrong this season, so happy days all round if he still has the appetite to train and play.

Couldn't agree more.

I remember coming to the end of my time as a first team footballer. I started to be dropped and started to resent it. When I did play a nasty streak came out in me, one Saturday I kicked a young winger up into the air. I was off the pitch before the referee showed me the red card. At that point I had decided to Jack playing football in.
A few weeks later I was back in my home town and I met a man who was playing when I started out. He asked me why I wasn't at football and I told him I had jacked it in. He sat me down and told me his greatest regret was stopping playing too young, he said football is your youth, no matter what your age is.
I went back and played seconds football, l even played a season with my son. He was on his way up to the firsts and I was on my way down to the thirds. Playing that season with him was better than winning things for myself. I even played against him in a game and scored twice past him, he is a keeper. He had the last laugh as he turned out to be a much better player than me. Now his son looks like surpassing him.
So, provided Barry isn't doing himself any long term harm and somebody wants to pick him he should stick at it.

Goodness knows I am not a Gareth Barry fan. Always with the foreign object late in a match, like the Sheik or Abdullah the Butcher. But as Red Auerbach used to say about KC Jones....the team is always better off when he's in. The true question is whether he'll offer the same next year or whether he'll even fit into the new squad. I'll say that he was one of the few on the squad that was always fit this past year.

He played well last season. Still has some more to give, I think. However, something tells me the new manager won't rely on him nearly as much as Roberto did. Either that or he goes this offseason.

Great.

Now i'm gonna be disappointed if next season the derby doesn't end with Barry sticking a fork in Hendersons head and throwing a fireball at Klopp.

Played like a 25 year old abusing performance enhancing drugs last season. Keep the absolute Sex God until his legs go.

It's about getting that last ounce of quality from him.

He's a better pro for our youngsters than Phil 'I'd drive Fellaini to Manchester United' Neville ever was.
