Ever Banega says he turned down Everton as he still had things to learn in Spain.
The Argentine international was a target for The Toffees during the window, and they even went as far as getting a work permit approved for him.
But he instead opted to stay with Valencia, where he has started the season in the first-team.
"I feel that I am more mature now and that I still have many things to learn and show in Spain, that's why I decided not be transferred to the English league," said Banega - who spent last term on loan at Atletico Madrid.

"It was me who didn't want to leave, I wanted to continue because I think in having a place in the team and I want to continue in that way.
"Besides what is said about me, I think about my team and about being a good team mate, look at the unity that our team showed last weekend on the pitch and I hope that it all continues in this way.
"You must know when you can do certain things and when you can't. Thanks to the support of important players I am more mature, I am learning many new things and that's good for me and for the team."

I rarely believe anything any footballer or club says about any matter at any time ever. The rule is, just say whatever is expedient at any given moment to (hopefully) keep the fans who pay your wages happy, whether that is Wenger's "I didn't see the incident", Rooney's "I'd never leave United for Ronaldo's reasons", Bill Kenwright's "I'm working tirelessly 24/7 to find an investor", or Ever Banega's "I never wanted to leave anyway"... I just take it all with a pinch of salt.

So basically his move to Everton fell through and now he's trying to convince the fans he was always committed to Atletico to avoid getting boos. Bet we get him in January.

We all know that if it was spurs instead of everton they would have gotten him. The reason being cuz they would attract him more than we'll be able to do in quiet some time. I just don't get it!!! Why on earth did moyes flew to london and got the permit agreed when apparently he didn't know that the player wanted to leave or not. Its like we were made fools out of this and seriously this rnever happens with any football club. Banega knew we were desperate to get him.

Anyways we look stronger still with injured parties returning soon and there's always january to look forward to for our classic loan moves(y)

I'm thinking that when the subject of work permits came up someone mentioned the Obinna case last year and some bright spark suggested getting the work permit sorted first so the club wouldn't look stupid if they were knocked back. Doh

I'm pretty sure the government doesn't give work permits without assurance that a deal is happening.

My bet is there was a deal and it fell through. No need to assume things were more complicated than that.

I was not overly arsed to be honest, he's a very good talent and all that bollocks, but his attitude is all wrong, he portrays this image of remaining loyal to Valencia but as James has pointed out, had Spurs come calling then the lure of London and a tidy wedge would have swayed him in the end... though i do wonder if MF had a word in his rather large ear and advised him to stear clear ?
