Should we ban all breeds of dangerous dogs?

I honestly don't know enough about the different breeds to comment on that.

My starting point would be any dog that has the capability and potential probability of inflicting serious physical harm on a person then they have no place on our streets.

I get your point on the owner but the fact is these dogs are in many cases simply dangerous weapons and so should be governed in a similar way. If that means licencing them to death then that's one option but I can't help thinking it would just be easier to ban them. Dogs like that should have no place in a home. There are plenty of other breeds of dogs without a history of attacks that can take their place.

you see this is the problem mate, most dogs has the capability and potential probability of inflicting serious physical harm on a person. Ie my lab is a big strong lab with a very muscular physique and if it was to attack me it would do damage and I have been attacked by a dog.it was my parents dog It was a cross between a collie/Alsatian and I went to take some chewing gum out if its mouth which it must have picked up from outside as soon as I tried to open his mouth he went for me biting my stomach leaving a scar which I still have to this day. Mum and dad got this dog from the local dogs home and had him a couple of weeks so will never know if it was the way he has been treated previously. Could I do this to my lab absolutely. However like I said its about being responsible owners. It does seem to be the pit bull which seem to be the main breed for a lot of these attacks so maybe it's something which should be looked at.

That close were that 79 year old died last week from the dog attack,we could have moved to that close 4 years ago,but were i currently live in Sedgemoor, you get quite a few people who walk/let there dogs run around on the field etc and they are not just the little dogs, they are the vicious looking type that could attack you or your dog at any second.

I know it's hard but this is where some experts would come in. How many attacks by Labradors have there been in the UK? And as a percentage of the numbers of Labs out there and years kept as pets?

I just don't see why anyone would want one of these dangerous dogs if it's not to "look tough".

Making a dog harder to own full stop, would be a good starting point.

It's not the dogs that are the prime problem it's the scrotes that own them & then fail to look after them in the appropriate manner.

However, Breeds that are known to have a tendency to be unpredictable & potentially lethal, have no place in our homes - why do people feel the need to have 'X' Breed, double hard, head like a cannon ball, muscle bound, beast, in their house? If you want a dog, have a dog, but the kind of breeds we're talking about here, are largely just status symbols of their [Poor language removed] owners.

All dogs microchipped for ID purposes.

If your dog attacks someone the owner prosecuted for assault.

If your dog kills someone you are prosecuted for death by dangerous dog (like the driving law).

If a dog poos on the street the poo should be hurled at the owner.

i agree mate, I honestly get where your coming from, however I would argue if I had one of these so called dangerous dogs from a pup it would not turn out to be a vicious aggressive animal. I also think something does need to be done ie have a dog licence and like someone suggested earlier on pay a annual few say £100-200 a year maybe this would deter the scum that have these dogs just for aggression purposes. It would be interesting to see the condition the dogs which have attacked have been kept in and how they have been brought. I would have no problem with banning of dangerous dogs though.

I like where this is going, but

What if your dog impregnates the neighbor's dog?

I hate dogs, so yeah ban the dangerous ones and make people get a license to get a dog.

See, I agree with this

One of the big fears I have is taking any future children to the park and having a giant dog attack them. I think all dogs should be on a lead when there are young children about.

Create a seperate park for dog owners or put up fences so that the kids and the lead less dogs are not near to each other. Any dog owner who takes his/her dog off the lead in the designated "Lead only" area should be prosecuted.
