Mirror says we have plunged into the market by bidding 1.5 million less than Sunderland, but hoping Baines will do a Nugent...

jesus wept. everton try to undermine sunderland by offering 3 million dollars less.

sometimes reading stories like that make you burn with embarrassment at what other supporters are saying at our expense.

let them think and say what they like. the simple fact is everton wont be mugs in the transfer market and pay silly money on average players. when these sides get relegated and they have whoppers on the books with huge wages lets see what they think and say then.

ps. torres is morientes in disguise.

sure. i know sunderland have not spent well, however i wish them well and hope the gamble comes off for them... it's just this damn continual nonsense where we are the laughing stock of the PL. there is a bidding war for a player and we make ourselves look like right tits by bidding 1.5 million less. it did not work with nugent and it wont work with baines. money talks and bullshit walks. as they say.

Why would Baines "do a Nugent" when he is a red!
Linked article says:
But Moyes thinks he can step in and win the race because the player is an Everton fan.
Whether he is or not, I don't have a clue, but I thought he was on our books as a youngster and he might prefer to come to us than stay at an imploding club or move to the tender mercies of Roy Keane and his overpaid mercenaries?

I agree with Teppic, its rare a player is swayed by the love of a club. Money talks in this market, and if its true then its bad business because its not going to do anything other than make us look stupid.

But its from the tabloids, so i suppose its just made up anyway.

I dont see it as continual nonsense - i dont have a problem with that being your perception btw.

moyes played 'hardball' in the arteta deal, moyes knew it was right to pay the agent the money for cahill (remember palace saying 250k was an insult for shuffling a few papers) moyes bargained down the lescott fee because of his knees and record of injury. moyes turned forsell down in the eleventh hour.

i dont see us as the laughing stock of anything - moyes wont be dictated to by other clubs '[Poor language removed] or bust' spending attitude. that makes him the best man for the job. if i was everton manager i could sign ronaldo, terry, drogba, giggs, cech, gerrard very easily - pay £50million to their respective clubs and give then £250k a week wages. where the money comes from is another issue - but thats how it is easily done.

sure suits. i agree with moyes playing hard ball when he does not want to pay over the odds. and as you pointed out it has worked well for us.. (although we got arteta and cahill by the skin of our teeth esp. arteta as our exclusive rights to talk to him had expired) but we will all agree great business non the less..

but my point is not actually that..more this...

it's entering a bidding war for a player when a club has set a valuation that another club has matched and then we come in and offer 2 million less (with a straight face) expecting to sign the player.

True, but in this case its not us (supposedly) unwilling to meet their demands, its more us underbidding a bid thats been accepted.

Depends on how the other club thinks in this situation adn how much they value the player. The player have some say in where he wants to go and his previous club can't force him to move to a specific other club.. he can choose to stay (not likely perhaps, but still). In a situation of a bidding war. If I was the chairman of team X with player Y and I had a secret hope of perhaps getting £5M for him. If teams A and B both wants him and team A offers £8M while team B offers £6.5M I'd rather see Y go to team A.. but if he demands a move to team B I'd let him go there as well.. perhaps trying to get a few extra pounds from him, but since I'd receive more than I had though... I win anyway.

The thing is player power cannot be under estimated- if this player decides he wants to leave- teh club will have no choice but to sell and if he wants to come to us and we can organise a package based on apperances/honours etc etc we could well be in the driving seat. The guy is a blue- if hes true blue and we are in for him, he only has one option in my eyes.

Dont forget though mick, there have been many turncoats in the past who we would never have dreamed they'd turn their backs on us, but they did, when money got involved.

Well if the Mancs came in I might agree with you but we are talking about Sunderland- safety in the Prem at best where as we have europe and a chance of a decent league campaign. Like I said if he is true blue only one option.
