Could be more serious/longer term than originally thought:

The left-back is struggling with an ankle problem – sustained in the win over Derby County on October 28 – and is likely to need an injection just to figure in the squad against his former club. In the long run, Moyes says it is a “possibility” that surgery maybe required to correct the problem.
