Ill say this about standing - aesthetically it looks great, but I was at Villa when we sat down and it was a great atmosphere.

People go on about atmosphere now being bad compared to the 80s, but in the 80s in was the working class lads who wern't getting priced out of the game who were creating the atmosphere.

Are you on about Villa away this season?
I was sat in the upper and honestly it was one of the best aways I have been, class day and oh guess what, we sat down!

Yeh mate, was a boss atmosphere, thats not to say I havent been in great atmospheres when the whole away end is standing, like West Ham this year.

But to say standing is the sole reason for there being an atmosphere is badly wrong, as you say mate, its fans that create it, not standing/sitting

It was the best away I'd experienced in the premier league I'd say, on and off the pitch everything went perfect. Even the weather ffs.

And spot on, if someones belting out a song whilst sitting down thats proper support, not standing up slating fellow blues. Never been about having a go at fellow blues.

Top post mate.
It's no longer a working class game so we get middle class tits telling us to be zany / have more fun / stand up / whatever because they think it's cool / whatever the other clubs do.

bollox to them, I'll do what I want to do.

My tuppence worth since I go all the aways. Basing this post on the original post listing the grounds:

-Villa Park - I always sit upstairs at Villa. Standing always seems weird when you're in a tight upper tier. Villa's falls into that category, at least for me.
-The Hawthorns - I think this one sucked mainly because the team performance was crap. Sometimes it needs the team to get people going.
-Liberty Stadium - Remember it being a great away day, in the sunshine. Great team performance. I was near the back of the front part of the lower tier so could stand occasionally.
-Elland Road - Horrible night. Horrible dated stadium with obstructed views (yeah, I know). Stood near the end out of frustration.
-Loftus Road - Had to stand all game because of the horrendous obstructed view seat I had.
-Craven Cottage - Occasionally stood.
-The Madejski - Sat. Match was ****e.
-The Etihad - Similar to Villa. Upstairs, no need to stand.
-The Britannia - I was the very back row of the stand, so stood all game.
-Upton Park - Stood whole game because I was row 2 in the lower tier and wouldn't have been able to see the pitch if I sat in a wet, waterlogged seat. Awful stadium.
-St James' Park - Decent. Stood occasionally.

I'll be honest, I'm not really arsed about standing. I understand it floats other peoples boats, but it never makes or breaks how much I enjoy an away day. Usually it's the team performance and whether we win or not that does that.

The other thing is, if I pay £40+ FOR A SEAT, then I am well within my rights to want to SIT DOWN. It doesn't make me any less of an Evertonian if I want to sit-down. Back when there were terraces, they had seats back then. Nobody should be guilt tripped into standing up. I understand it occasionally makes for a decent atmosphere, but the actual team performance is usually as important for ensuring that.

Yeah the whole day was painful, didn't help the fact it was raining aswell.

Haha
I went to School within spitting distance of the Reebok. It ALWAYS rains in Horwich.

I'll buy you a beer in the Beehive or the Barnstormers if you make it. Sadly I think the Bromilows is no more.
