Someone like Mertens would have been ideal.
Rooney was with us abar 1 year, cahill wasnt a patch on pienaar ability.Let's see...
Rooney
Arteta
Baines
Cahill
Lukaku
My question is, what type of player should we sign to play on the LW and who realistically could that be (if we do offload the 4 players mentioned above)?
someone two-footed who likes to come inside and playmake, but is also capable of burning down the wing and whipping one in.
doesn't sound like much but I honestly can't think of a suitable and realistic candidate right now.
Agree. Zat (seems) obsessed with this youth culture in a club. ButI personally feel we need an experienced/proven quality playmaker to really complete an attacking unit.
I find it amazing how highly thought of pienaar is by some of our fans
Now don't get me wrong he's technically a very good/clever player
But massively overrated IMO
He would score about 3 goals a season not sure about assists but I doubt he ever got double figures
Was slow lightweight constantly got bullied and hardly ever put a decent cross in
I know he wasn't an out an out winger but he did play wide
To some people as long as him and Baines did a few nice one twos it was happy days
Some people would be quite happy to see them 2 down our left when there 40
The guy was a bottler
Went to Dortmund and couldn't handle the pressure
Then left us for Spurs who at time were a champions league team and soon came back to us with his tail between his legs
Back to a team that at the time were happy to finish 7 and get beat in cup semi finals
His level sadly
good lad jock, haven't seen him posting much of late
Hes still got something like 50 direct assist for us probably has the same again if not more assisting the assister aswellThere's a few points that are a load of rubbish in this post. First of all, couldn't handle the pressure at Dortmund? They were crap when he played for them! Tomas Rosicky was their best player for gods sake.
The assist stat does my head in, it's generally not very important whatsoever who gets the assist. When Barkley scored that boss goal at Southampton this year Coleman will get the assist, then when Coleman scored that belter at Swansea a couple of years ago McCarthy will have got the assist, both were 5 yard passes that you and I could've played. It's not generally important unless it comes to people like Baines who have brilliant deliveries and actually make difficult assists.
Pienaar made Baines a far better player, aswell as being skilful and knitting a lot of our attacks together. Probably didn't have the individual skill of an Arteta or a Barkley or a Mirallas, but he was absolutely integral to our attacking play.
Both were more important to Everton than Pienaar.Rooney was with us abar 1 year, cahill wasnt a patch on pienaar ability.
