atmosphere at Goodison is awful.

Well as usual we can't agree on anything.

"Saturday at 3pm" ... surprised it wasn't a non-stop wall of sound from start to finish the way some people go on about that day/time being the only proper time for watching football.

Hate threads like this. You find me another team in the league that'd be bouncing for 90 minutes in a routine win for a top end of the table side against a bottom end of the table side. Been plenty of games where the atmospheres been great, the noise when Eto'o came on against Chelsea was one of the loudest roars I've heard in a while and there's been a few over the last few years aswell against bigger opposition. To be honest apart from West Brom there isn't going to be a team who'll be dead up for a home game against Villa.

Apart from 2-3 games a year Goodison is awful now. I have been to near enough every ground following Everton (when I was still over there) and Goodison on a quiet day is one of the worst in the league. You could hear individual voices on the Tele v Villa. Whenever you have 40k people together you shouldn't be hearing individual voices that many times. Goodison has gone crap recently and as soon as anyone mentions it people attack them on here. I think if the away fans were put the Gwladys street end you would get a well better atmosphere.

We win 3-0, hopefully turning around a bad run; we play some really great football and have two of our talismen back in the starting line up; and then we have to have 17 page moan about the atmosphere at Goodison. Jesus wept. We really do have a miserable section of the fanbase. Never happy. As you might be able to tell, I have to watch the games in LA and I cannot tell you the number of times commentators have commented on the amazing atmosphere at Goodison. "Structure shaking"; "can't hear myself talk at the moment"; "on its day, the best ground in the country" etc. Generally: total respect from the pundits and genuine affection from most of the ex-players. The villa game? It looked like a sunny saturday and people were enjoying the football. And the opposition fans were singing like a bunch of idiots while we dry bummed their team. Thought nonchalant silence was all they and their s**** team deserved.

The home Atmosphere at English football is reactive to the game.

When nothing of note or excitement or controversy is happening the atmosphere reflects this.

But when it's good, it's very good and better than the atmosphere at the 'ultra' European games.

This

Goodison is a reactive crowd, as are most crowds in England

No matter how "up for it" you are, if your team then proceeds to pass it around in their own half for ages the most you'll be moved to do is a polite golf clap

Give me a crowd reacting to what's actually happening on the pitch over a bunch of idiots banging a drum and letting off flares anyday

so your slagging off the atmosphere of a game you watched on tv then saying you want the away fans in the Gwladys!?!?!

Love how everything always used to be better...

'I used to sit in the Gwladys me lad and I would sing songs even before the players came out, was like a boss episode of Stars in your eyes!!'

'I used to go to every game and I'd use sign language at work through the week so I could sing all day every Saturday'

'I used to wake up singing on match day, sing all the way through into the night, start again when MOTD was on then again when Football Focus was on the following week!'

'Now when i'm listening to it on the radio I can only hear 2 people talking'

It wasn't always.

But it's easier to get worked up when there's something real at stake ... that happened more in the 60's than in recent years. It also helped that there was a different mindset: you counted yourself to be lucky to get in for the matches & nobody talked about the dreadful restricted views. For the biggest matches the ground would be full by 2.15 and the atmosphere could build. BUT there could be dire atmospheres as well.

In fairness, entrance was peanuts, so there was no cause for a sense of entitlement or for criticism of the facilities / spec.

They tried that once in the 70's v Millwall but sadly it didn't work for some reason.

The hilarity of this thread is the majority of people moaning are saying they watch the games on TV. No way you can get a feel of atmosphere from TV.

For years the wsag fanzine called people who sung at the match, beauts, kopites, wools, cringeworthy, smalltime etc, so naturallly that attitude sank into peoples psyche as exemplified by some of the posts on here. If you constantly here someone saying 'you're a tit if act this way' then many people will end up believing it. It then self perpetuates causing that attitude to self fulfil.

Thing is though wsag were wools in denial anyway who only done a few aways and were desperate to try and fit in as scousers, so they were trying to fit in but not getting it - we always acted how we want, some like singing, some don't, some only now and then, but we respected others choices. Now though some fans thinking they're boss clued up Evertonians because they don't sing and going round insulting those that do, leaving those that do like sing gobsmacked at the deterioration in attitude that some of our supporters have to others.

Err no, that's not what i'm saying. I'm slagging the atmosphere as a whole recently, although Saturday was crap, you didn't have to be there to notice it mate. And I said nearer the GS not in it. Park End is dead, would get more back and forth if the away fans where closer to GS (know the reason it isn't done)

Regarding me not being there, pretty hard from 6k miles away these days. Don't make out I have never been a game though, went home and away for years.
