saw us win 3-1 one season. other than that we batted them losing 1-0 few years back and also a 2-2 night game last min equaliser from villa which was a traversty.

worst was a 0-4 defeat around christmas time terrible performance one of the worst ive ever seen on par with tranmere, man city away at maine road.

It's always the same story against Villa, always. We always pull out one of our best performances of the season and we always still don't win. Right up there with the derbies for games I dread, tbh.

About time we worked one to the Villains - sick of going there and not getting three points. Only thing going for the Villains is there ground I think its boss .

Yeah, I will always remember that Ashley Young equalizer. His celebration made me fume. I said every curse under the sun that night at Goodison.

Would take a point to be honest, 4 points from United and Villa would be a good solid start to the season.

Yeah i agree tbh, deep down i feel we could go and get 3 points but i wouldn't be to disappointed with a draw, just hope we can go and get a nice win.

I'd go 4-4-1-1
Howard
Hibbert. Jags. Heitinga Baines

Naismith. Gibson. Fellaini. Pienaar
Osman
Mirallas
Distin got injured so rest him and rest jelavic because he looked tired so it's best not risk it for the rest of the season

Looks like Distin could be a doubt for Sat. so;

Howard

Neville Jags Heitinga Baines

Osman Gibson

Naismith Fellaini Pienaar

Jelavic

Would be my starting team.

I'd be surprised if we won this. Lambert's a good manager and will still be stinging from the first game, can't see Villa losing this one. A draw with us coming from behind would be a satisfying result, I think not getting beat should be the priority, follow that up with wins in the cup and West Brom.

No changes to the team for me, distin was just severe cramp he will be fine. for whatever reason our record against villa is awful home and away, just never seem to beat them no matter how they are percieved to be at the time.

I watched West Ham - Villa on Saturday so I could get a look in at what to expect. Naturally, Lambert has them passing the ball a whole lot better, a short and quick continental style. However, it appears they have a problem where they can only seem to do this around the half way line, and therefore they don't look threatening in the final third. El Ahmadi really impressed me and it's safe to say he is their metronome. Delph also impressed me in central midfield. However, N'Zogbia still looked disinterested (I remember when they first signed him and I was gutted it wasn't us), Holman looked off the pace and Bent was largely isolated up front due to Ireland persisting in dropping deep to collect possession.

Their bigger goal threat was in fact Ron Vlaar, he had couple of attempts including a speculative 40 yarder.

I definitely feel we should be optimistic on our chances of coming away with a win, regardless of historical results against them.

Little more from that game...

We completed 196 (71%) passes last night against Man Utd, with 30% possession. Aston Villa completed 442 (80%) passes with 65% possession against West Ham - so with a bit more of a cutting edge they could be tricky, but you can see what Lambert is trying to do with them, McLeish badly mismanaged them last season.

no 4-4-2, but neville is not needed for a game like this, osman doesn't deserved to be dropped so for me it would be a toss up between mirallas and naismith to play in the hole with felli dropping back. however, i am really starting to warm to felli playing further up the pitch, i wish we had 2 of him to play both positions.

I wish we had 15 of him. He's a boss. For the match I'll say 2-0 to us. We have a better squad, and the new Belgian connection will be unstoppable :)

I'm going for 2-0 as well,I think our system with throttle their supposed passing game and our excellent forward play will see us win easy!!
Glad I'm going to Mexico in the morning,so I'll miss it!!!!
