Nah if Lampard was doing punditry for a final Chelsea were playing in it wouldn't sit right, he's nailed his colours to our mast now and should act like it in public. If he were talking about what signings they should be making to stay ahead of everyone else (including us, his employer) you'd be ballistic and rightfully so. Only tin-pot clubs with no ambitions whatsoever would sit easy would that sort of thing. I didn't include Villa in that pack before this, very surprising.

Many managers sit in studios of their ex clubs. I havent gave it another thought.
The rest of it though is a nah. The message on the clubs media was like..ok this is weird. You're not just an ex player now. You're the manager of a club in the same league. Thats what i consider crass

Absolutely incredible. You'd think he'd just taken Villa to the top 4 to get that kind of a pass.

45 point season and your manager is saying 'we were this, we were that' about another club, and advising them who to buy? I would be completely humiliated if it were Lampard and would fully feel like we are wasting our time with him.

Tragic from Villa fans, this.

They do, but not when they're currently managing another club in the same division, therefore a direct rival. That alone made it weird, but the fact he was so open about how desperate he is to see Liverpool stay ahead of everyone else just made it farcical. He's meant to be trying to build a team to compete with them yet was suggesting players LFC should sign to continue to strengthen. Why does he want a strong Liverpool when he's competing against them now as manager of someone else?!

Of course we know his allegiances deep down, but to be so unabashed about it on TV when he has the position he has was just laughable and made Villa look so, so small-time.

Mate Roy Keane isn't currently managing another PL club that will be competing against United next season. Why is your manager commenting on what signings Liverpool should be making when his current employer hired him to catch up with and hopefully beat said club, that should be the long-term aim for any manager of a big club in the Premier League. To become the best somehow, someway, at everyone else's expense.

It's coming across as majorly embarrassing, making Villa look bloody tin-pot and that shouldn't be.
He was a pundit commenting on the game, that's what pundits talk about after a game, particularly so when it is the last game of the season.

The 'we' part aswell in the studio has that even ever happened before. Its one thing the media not making anything out of it. And we know why that is. But the villa fans not only not minding it but liking it as it raises thoer profile. How bizarre how bizarre

Not sure any employed manager should go on as a pundit for another clubs games, it’s not like they need the money.
Maybe World Cup or national level games, but why would they do it for another club?
Games ethics not right at all.

He was the pundit at the match for BT. Don't pundits comment on the players and what is good and what is bad. There is no difference between Slippy saying Liverpool needs younger midfielders after commenting on a match as there is Roy Keane saying it. The media will always try and turn things like this into clickbait with the headline but that is just to get dumb football fans to click links and generate advertising revenue
There’s a big difference. Keane isn’t managing another team in the same league

I remember martinez doing a Monday night game for sky while in his honeymoon period with us. It didn’t sit well with me.
