If Dr. King were to be alive today, he would be disappointed and saddened that the major issues he tirelessly fought against still persist in our society after all these years.

"One didn’t need a Ph.D. in American history to see that the life force behind the Jan. 6 insurrection was less about the political future of one man and more about that man’s promise to protect 402 years of white privilege. The symbols of supremacy were everywhere on Capitol Hill that day, from the Confederate flag that was paraded across the Capitol rotunda to the makeshift gallows that threatened to lynch any politician linked to racial progress. The rioters were so confident their whiteness would protect them that they not only shunned masks but posted their selfies or streamed their felonies on Facebook Live, and when they were shocked by their subsequent arrests, they begged for the privilege of a pardon from their great white father at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

As my colleagues on the Inquirer Editorial Board emphasized this weekend, a true racial reckoning to continue King’s legacy must focus on America’s gross economic injustices — the racial wealth gap, raising the minimum wage for our essential workers who are disproportionately Black and brown, and addressing the structural biases that caused both the pandemic itself and its economic fallout to fall most heavily on people of color. In their futile efforts to block Wednesday’s inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the insurrectionists wanted to prevent those goals from happening, to preserve an America where success was less about the content of one’s character and more about the color of white skin.

The election of 2020 and the year’s racial reckoning opened a tiny window of opportunity for a new administration and a congressional majority hanging by a one-vote thread in the Senate to finally turn some of King’s economic dreams into reality. The choice in 2021 is between the radical but uplifting King vision that our nation claims to celebrate on Monday, or the tyranny of the white supremacist mob that tried to bludgeon it. As we still clean up the mess inside the Capitol, we need to grab that long moral arc and yank a little harder this time."

My husband found out yesterday that an old friend, who we not longer communicate with given our different ideologies, posted in his FB page that he was at the riot in Washington and his GPS location shows him inside Capitol Hill. I'm indignant at the thought this rich white guy felt so entitled to break the law and post about it on FB that I told my husband that we should report him to the FBI. But then I'm also having hesitation at the notion that we could ruin his life. Any suggestions? @LinekersLegs @BlueTX @verreauxi @Tin-Tin @SteveSC what would you all do?
Inform the FBI. Understandably, as a decent person you'll be worried what it may men to them, however if he's innocent then you must trust the legal system.

If he's committed a crime and is subsequently prosectued, the person who will have ruined his life will be himself: his actions, choice and consequences.

I dunno, man. Snitching ain't the one.

You could always blackmail or extort them instead lol

TBH if they posted it on FB then they've snitched on themselves so.you might as well make sure they get their collar felt.

I'm calling them this morning but as an immigrant and a person of color having to call the FBI is quite intimidating but it must be done. And like many have said, if this guy is innocent then he has nothing to worry about but if he is not then he needs to be punished for his bad choice. Moreover, I wouldn't want not to report him and regret it later if he commits other crimes against our democracy that could have been prevented.

Haha, that's an idea. He does have a lot of money so it could be profitable. But then I would be as corrupted as him and I rather to be poor than stain my soul for money.

The guy was an idiot by no only posting it on Facebook but by posting his GPS location inside Capitol Hill. What I still don't get is why he hasn't erase all this info from his page.
