“Corroborating his statement, Chansley had his horns, furry coyote tail headdress, face paint, tan pants, six foot long spear and his bullhorn inside the 2003 Hyundai that he parked at the FBI.”

Sure, they wanted to bring down the US government, but at least they’ve made it easy on law enforcement in the aftermath. Federal Agent’s Time Matters.

Not to mention this detail from the WP article
“They left the office for a secure room in the Capitol complex. The evacuation route they took is unknown. A group of snipers on the counter-assault team that travels with Pence would have scoped out the path and ensured it was clear.”

You presumably don’t get on a sniper protective detail for the VP unless you have shown you are effective at your role.
Although nothing to do with their close protection role of POTUS or anyone like that, I once met a member of the Secret Service who was working in Germany.

To get to the top ladder - CQB or close protection - he said you often have years in the military of law enforcement, then years in the Service before consideration.

His behavior post trial is also making their case for them

If it were ‘serious people’ , the Capitol would now be under strict military control, and the Democrats locked up. The fact that they are not suggests that no serious people were involved....
I don't know what the real plan was for that day. Whether it was just an attempt to take the building as part of the protest or an actual coup attempt.
Either way, the 'seriousness' of the people involved doesn't always equate to the attempt being successful or not.

Look at the attempted coup in Equatorial Guinea back in 2004 by Simon Mann's 'Executive Outcomes' PMC group.
They were all ex-special forces, SAS, SANDF & SEALS. The whole thing was a complete failure.
