That was one of the most hilarious/awful performances I have ever seen,if somebody had said Sunderland had turned up a player short and had to rag some one out of the crowd to play after they had finished a 12 hour nightshift then drank a bottle of scotch I would have believed it
Yep, it really was
that bad. He was giving it away, he was falling over the ball, they were running past him at will - Awful to watch, bit like watching a slow car crash.
Still always tell people to this day, that is the worst individual performance by an opposition player I've ever witnessed with my own eyes.
I can understand why. It was odd, because first game of the season we beat Spurs 1-0 courtesy of a Michael Chopra last minute goal (Less said about that mag rat the better) and McShane was brilliant, he was winning every header, positioning was great - Then at your place, well he just looked completely out of his depth. Why he wasn't hooked off I don't know, I think after the 5th went in it was more comical than anything else. I've never ever laughed at us losing, but that was the only time I burst out laughing, I didn't know to laugh or cry. I was there for that game, it scarred me deeply! Think that started the rot against your lot, when you beat us like 7/8 time in a row till he ended that rotten run years later.
I can't imagine Roy Keane was too pleased with him lol Personally, I don't think shouting at him would work, he should have just said "No offence Paul, but I'm letting you out on loan to Dumbarton mate".
I'll never forget what someone shouted from the crowd - "Will someone please take Shaggy off (referring to his look alike from the guy from Scooby Doo) before I run on to the pitch and head-butt him". Possibly, the only good moment of my trip to your place that day.
