That's the thing though, apart from the Pickford balls up that resulted in them hitting the post, they didn't test our keeper until stoppage time despite having the majority of the play

He forced his way out with just hours left on deadline day knowing full well the state it would leave us in. He's said numerous times he considers Arsenal his club despite the fact he was never anywhere close to as loved there as he was here. He acted an absolute rat whenever we played them subsequently and even had an unsavoury incident with a fan after the 3-0 in 2014.

Lets not do a narrow blinkered revisionist hindsight job to prove a point.
All appointments are a bit of a gamble.
iirc at the time Silva was tottering on the edge for weeks, nay months and all that seemed to be keeping him in a job was the lack of proper candidates...Which is why Ferguson got the job when the penny finally dropped for Moshiri, the alternatives were Moyes & Rafael and the rest no where.
So in that context Arteta...even totally unproven, didn't look too bad when compared to Silva, Moyes or Rafael.

Then Moshiri got lucky.
